i have a kicker L7 (10") the year that has a red cap, but its on its last leg and the coil is starting to lockup. so i emailed kick and they said $160 for a completely new sub with one year warranty and i send them the old sub and pay shipping on both ends! i say scew them, so my question is can i jus replace the coil? spider also if i have to, and if so how do i go about measuring the coil and spider? thanks
Basically, unless things have changed recently, you cannot just change a voice coil.....the cone, spider and VC are all one integrated chunk of mass. That seems a bit steep for a recone.....
its not just a recon, its them sending a whole new sub and me sending them my old one. and i still have to pay shipping on both ends of the deal. not cool on kickers behalf imo
there the only ones kicker is your best bet square recones are not common unless you have a round basket have them recone it or sell it.Its not really worth investing in, in my opinion.
Kicker made their whole kit and kaboodle so you would have to do that. You cannot find a coil for that sub unless you go through Kicker. It is a very odd size, and I haven't seen any coils or heard of anyone with coils that fit the gap. Its so they can make more money. Pretty gay IMO.
I'm giving up on kicker. Good amps but just "ok" subs imo. So I'm going the dc, fi, aa mayhem, sundown nightshade or any good brand round subs with common recones and 2k-2.5k rms.
