The stock (GM) rear speaker adapters that attach the speakers to the deck are real flimsy and don't seal the back sound from the speakers. Is there any other way to attach the speakers to the rear deck so they are sealed tight and sound won't leak out?
I guess I could use some sound dampening material around the rim then cover that with any color tape I want, too. Thanks.
You could make a custom rear deck cover, like ranger's sister did http://www.caraudiotalk.com/audio-forum/showthread.php?t=3415 pretty cool.. check out the thread!
Hey Cool9 Are you talking about those plastic rings that most 6 x 9 fit in, then the ring attaches to the deck? Those rings are rather flimsy. Do you want your rear deck speakers to sound really good? Dynomat the rear deck. Then cut out some 6 x 9 rings out of MDF. Mount the speakers to the MDF then mount the rings to the Deck. You'll be suprised at how good they sound, you'll wonder why you needed subwoofers. Oh, if its not those flimsey 6 x 9 rings ignore everything I just said. Old people like to babble
I think you're right on with that one, ranger - I was just taking the opportunity to show off your sissy's handiwork once again. those crappy adapters stink.. I wonder how much that engineer made that year?
Must have been one really big bonus. The other good one GM did was like my sons car. The 6 x 9s in the rear were held up by wires (almost resembled coat hangers), do you remember those? Just snaps in. I just replace the speakers in his this summer, they are actually bolted in now with real screws. And what about the Chevy Truck, they just snap in the door, no screws.
