Why are the sony XPlod Subs, Amps so bad? Everyone says they suck. I know all the other brand like MTX , Kicker, JL. have very high RMS ratings and sony has fairly low ones, but what else ?
any.. what im tryin to say is just because its less money. why is everyone putting it down ? isnt xplod a good starter system to get. its not like your going to try and win a comp with xplod but wont it still bump hard.
it is a good starter but when you start putting real power to them they just cant handle it. that is why they are sold mostly at walmart or places where the poor bastard or ghetto kids get there stuff and make there car rattle where the speakers are worth more than there car and parts fall off and they dont give a crap how good it sounds they just want loud. thats why we laugh at the kids who dont know anything about cars and usually drive the biggest heap of s#@t on the streets
OK, lets get a few things straight right here..... ALL SPEAKERS SUCK, end of story, no ifs, ands or buts, its the truth..(you show me a speaker system the TRUELY recreates a live acoustic performance and i will eat my hat) Now, fer the sony xplodes, say compared to some high end drivers, its like comparing apples and tampons....they are so far apart in quality that it is useless to compare them..... Now, can a sony explode speaker sytem, amp system, etc sound good? YES IT CAN. The same thing is true of other lower quality drivers, such as radio shack, jensen, among MANY others. A dirst timer in the car aufio world can sink his teeth into something affordable and that sounds pretty good. With the right sub enclosure, the right effort put into the placement of the speakers, and not asking too much from an amp. you can get some truely good sounding results. It is also a way for someone who does not have alot of money to tie up in a system to get better than average sound...... thats pretty much the deal... Ranger, i am sure you can add to this somehow........
Viking...first your spelled "for" as "fer" you typed "the" instead of "that"..."you show me a speaker system that TRUELY..." You spelled "first" as "dirst" and "auFio" instead of "audio" Welp...this is my contribution to this thread haha I'm just fukin with ya Viking. Actually my first system was a pretty budget system at TO ME sounded like the best system I have ever heard. I was four 5.25 inch Pioneer 2 ways...you know the blue cone ones. And the two 10 inch CS Bazooka subs and Bazooka CS150.1 amp...with a 150 dollar alpine deck. I can still remember how clean and smooth that system hit...it was cheap and it sounded smoother and more full and refined than all of my other friends who were all bass and no sound quailty. You're prolly like SQ from that crap of stuff?? Yes somehow it all blended in together so well...I still miss it. My current setup sounds nowhere near as good as my last system did...and the last system was four 5.25's with 16 watts rms to each and a couple low end Bazooka subs in a sealed box with 75 watts to each...I liked it...didn't care what anyone else said cuz I am Rick James BITCH!!
I really should stay out of this, but I can't. A speaker is a speaker is a speaker. They all do the same thing, they move air. I could, without any doubts, build me a Sony Explode Sub box, run it within its limitations and never have a problem. Any speaker can be easily destroyed by over-excursion or by DC (clipping the amp). I bet I could build an awesome system with some Radio Shack Drivers Hmmmmm Anyway I have to get back to finding 2nd Degree Taylor Polynomials of Vector Valued Functions (more than one variable)
My first system would make the sony's look like the best thing ever made.... My first car (1969 volkswagon beetle.....red primer in color, no heat, no windshield washers) was my pride and joy......I knew nothing of car audio except this car had no radio and I wanted some tunes....so........I bought a radio from a buddy for $20.00....It was a two knob am/fm cassette....The knob to rewind and fast forward was broke so a short sheet metal screw was there to act as the handle to change directions.....Since the bug had no speakers I bought some really cool kraco's at a flee market (man I sould have bought that amp....1500 watts on special sale only $24.99)....They were basically some really cheap-assed plates with three drivers each...all silver and that is how they sounded....METALLIC!!!. Since there was no rear deck, I built one out of particle board and dowel rods....I cut the dowel rods to length to make the particle board almost flush with the top of the rear seat....Cut a couple holes and dropped em in.....With the bass control all the way up the bass was incredibly non existant (hhhmmm years later I would learn the reason for an enclosure)....it was loud, but sounded like complete ass.....I think from about 850hz and down there was nothing (maybe these kracos had a 186bd/octave high pass slope on the crossover ????) After this is when I started to read a lot and ask questions of anyone I knew that could tell me about audio......I still chuckle when I am at a best buy (or better yet sears home audio section) and hear someone ask the sales person a question and the answers given...... Anyway that was my start into car audio (somewhere around 1981) Willy
hey, we all probably started out with crap, and that didn't stop us from thinking it was cool.. I know I did.. I remember that my first 15's were pyramid phase 1's yeah.. I'm that old.. anyway.. to answer the question at hand.. sony used to make really good, powerful, dependable equipment. - no, seriously.... they really did! they have since done the same thing that RF has, and the same thing that coustic has.. rode on the curtails of a good brand name, thus dissing loyal owners by pushing crap in sheep's clothing.. They have made the bottom line profit more important, over the satisfaction of thier customers, and in the process.. turned thier name from a household icon into a laughing stock. Sony is great if you are going on a camping trip, and forgot your matches. - oh, and if you want to go to wal mart and buy a system that most people in thier right mind wouldn't look at. they want to sell to the masses, and don't care what they compromise, instead of taking care of the customers that got them there in the first place. end of my story..//sorry about the rant.
so the real old sony amps are good...huh.i got a friend that has 2 old ass hell amps.says in BIG numbers 80+80. said hes had them for like 20+years.he said they work too. maybe we should wire them up and see?
