What would make an amp go into protection mode at nealry muted volumes and the subs barely hitting?!

I unhooked one of the voice coils and it runs just fine.

Then that means its an impeadence problem. How did you have the coils wired? If you had them parallel then you migh want to try running them in series.

How is it wired?? If in parallel is it wired to one channel or bridged?? Is your amp one or two channels...I tried looking for a 1600 watt amp on the site and cant find one.

Well, both of my subs are fried now, it was the subs all along, we hooked up a 10" to it and it pounded, and we fixed the cutout problem, the bass was set to high on my speakers and it would kick off :p

Shame we couldnt have figured it out earlier. But make sure yo ucheck the other components so you dont blow new subs too.

sucks to see your subs go, however its not a huge loss they were audiobahns. trust me man invest in better speakers. my jls have been pounding for over 3 years and their only fault was the cardboard trim ring wearing!

nah not that much but if your gonna buy subs why settle for anything inferior?

i/e i just bought a set of infinity kappa perfect 6.1s for 559 bucks. DO I NEED them, no but why spend 400 for Kappas when i can spend 200 more and get the top of the line in the event i want them later?

my bad i had a typo hahaha i ment the dual 4 ohm vc ones aka the v3d4 my bad should be a lil more specific thats what i ment. ive herd those, they are very compairable to jl w3s and infinity kappas. however i think on cardomain or something there was a buy one get one free on kappa subs. idk if its still in affect though.

I found my Image Dynamics on Cardomain, should I get Dual 4ohms or Dual 2ohm voice coils?

Another question, does Eclipse make good subs?

Impedance depends on what amp you and and what ohm load you want to run it at.

    Amp will run 2 4 or 8........

I know lower the ohms the better, so 2 or 4 would be fine...
