.707 is like the maximally flat response...but in-car it could be totally different.

Not sure what it does on the head unit...does it say like shallow or steep?? or wide or narrow??

The Q factor on the amp is to adjust the bandwith of the boosted frequency.

say you choose some boost at 35 Hz...you can make that a narrow bump in output at 35Hz with the Q knob low or have have smoother broader boost around 35 Hz by turning the Q knob up

there is my knowledgeablity for you..yah f'in happy now??? haha jk

Q-Factor is an abstract quality of how something sounds, enough bull.

A q-factor of around 1.00 is nornal. But most of us, including me, like our mids to be a little more pronounced. Setting your Q-Factor around 2.00 will make our mids more pronounced.

This happens because of how much wider the curve around the center frequency becomes as we increase the Q-Factor.

Q-Factor is useful in the midrange frequencies, but it make bass frequencies sound nasty. Q-Factors around 1.00 and 1.25 are normal, but 2.00 sounds very rapp.

    Anyway check out the picture

But pictures are so much easier to understand.

Most of us are visual learners, including myself. Your explination, while accurate, would be confusing for me. But I have to admire anyone willing to do a little research. Keep up the good work

Its really amazing how we as the human species rely on one particular sense to derive info. The eyes have it for the most part....but a little LISTENING can reveal ALOT.........

A picture is worth 1000 words

Alternatively: The Q factor is when Bond pulls out an innocous looking object that turns out to secretly be sometype of weapon or broad tracker.

"Don't touch that! That's my lunch!"
