I just recently got a Rockford Fosgate 10" sub from a friend. i took it home and put it in a truck enclosure and wired it to my Magnovox home theater system, i turned it up and got kinda high and i heard a loud like hitting noise coming from the sub. what was this noise and how can i fix it if possible?
Did it sound like a mechanical noise?? like something clanking?? if so yes you were bottoming it out...why or how?? -too much power -enclosure does not control excursion
as in it simply does not control the exursion...when the speaker reaches it mechanical limits and you hear a loud clanking noise...that is the voice coil former slamming against the back plate...could be from wrong enclosure size and tuning basically I was able to fee a JL15W4 sub 800 watts daily without it ever bottoming out or frying...why?? because the enclosure was bad ass at controlling the subs excursion so it wouldn't blow itself to pieces. With the sub and amp at full tilt the sub looked as if it wasn't even moving much at all...but it was loud as fawk
well not necessarily...just an enclosure design for the sub. my box for my JL15W4 was bigger than "recommended" and it was awesome
