hi, i have a power acoustik ps2-1800 amp with 2 15 inch Audio pipe woofers hooked on it...the problem is that when i raise the volume too much the amp goes into protection mode and the subs wont sound. i was told by a friend that i might be that there was too little power going into the amp, and i needed to get a 0 gauge wire to fix it. what could it be, and how can i fix it? thanks, Daniel
whats the impedance of the subs?and how are they wired to the amp. also since you mentioned it.what size wire is going to the amp?
What he said. Also where is the amp grounded to and how did you ground it?? Do you like Italian BMT's from subway??? They are my favorite subs by far...with some lettuce, tomato, onions, bell peppers, jalepeno peppers, honey mustard, and mayo...MmmMMmm
well...the impedance of the sub is 4 ohm, and its a single coil. the amp is bridged and its wired in parallel. i have 4 gauge wire...right now the amp is grounded to one of the seats bolts.(i sanded the paint of before grounding it.
NOT a good ground! Find a point on the chassis of the vehicle and sand aways all paint and corrosion, drill a hole, and use a bolt and nut with washers. Then paint the ground with undercoating, top and bottom. Now, if that dont fix er' up, then might look at the sub itself, or perhaps a low voltage condition.
well ive had this ground in my other 2 setups i had...one of them with the same subs but another amp...and this started with this new amp...(the amp is about 1 week old only).
your problem is your amp is loaded down too low...It is wired for 2 ohms bridged...it is shutting down so YOU don't fry it. TOO LOW IMPEDANCE. Either use one subwoofer or wire them in series and bridge it to the amp..simple as that
okk....just wired it in series and it didnt sound...this is why i changed my old amp, when i bought this one i conected it in parallel and it sounded but like sh!t, really ugly, anyways i talked to the technician on the store and he told me i had to put a positive in the negative and vice versa in one of the subs...and guess what it sounded. So...cold it be the cables are putted wrongly?
ok.get a pos from one sub and connect it to the neg of the other sub.you will now have one pos and one neg from both subs. wire those into your amp.you will now have a safe 8 ohm mono load on your amp. if thats what you just did then you should have it right.
okk i put them up again in series but it sound like crap...no bass at all...ill take a pic of the wire setup right now
okk got it fixed thanks to pedro...what i did was that i putted both cables going to the amp in the positive sides of the subs and the cable going from sub to sub on the negative....worked perfectly...thanks all for your help.
pounds really hard...i have another question which type of box is better in terms of deep bass sealed or ported?
um....i use to have a sealed box and really liked it. BUT my current box is ported and it hits alot harder. so for big boom a ported should work for you. here's my set up. 1 L5 kicker solo 10.
amps look hot on the floor...anyways...ive been trying to design a box on the winisd but i dont understand much of it... what is port tuning?
