Preamps, they are where you control everything right?

So it would go Headunit-Preamp-Amp or amps- Speakers or subs? or if you didn't have a preamp crossover instead if it's active and if it's passive it goes between the speakers or subs and amps?

Now the next question, is a preamp basically a crossover with a lot more tuning options that you can change conveniently from one location without having to adjust crossovers, or if that isn't it what purpose does a preamp have? I know what a crossover does but does someone want to fill me in on the rest.

preamp is anything that is before the amplifier signal inputs. It could be a line driver...active crossover...or some type of equalization unit.

Aline driver is something that increases the voltage to your amps. Say if your head unit has an output of 2 volts a line driver might increase it up to 8 volts so you get a pristine signal to your amps, but they vary by brand.

I hope my 2.5v preouts will be enough. If not, i'm gonna have to pick up a line driver.

I like my HU, it's just the preouts that suck on it. 2.5 volts ain't much.

CC you should pick one up, you got nice speakers and nice amps, why not get the most out them. Like Pedro I also have an old PG 6 channel LD that was in my old system. It also put out 8 volts and worked real good. Maybe ill dig it out of the garage and put it in my wifes car, the Alpine only puts out 4 volts.

TY if you can find an eq with an aux in that should put you ahead of the game.

i used to have an old earthquake model with an aux in. also booted the signal to 5v or so. this was 12 years back tho.

you wont have to crank the gains. less chance for noise.

    why not wait and see.

I would love to wait and see but I'm afraid it my sound like sh!t if i don't get it. These things here cost a couple hundred, I don't want to spend that much.

I'm contacting audiosavings to see how much 2 day air shipping will cost. My dad will be leaving by the end of this week.

I know that 2.5 volts isn't good at all. I actually meant to get one but I just totally forgot about it.

Are there any other brands i should look at?

do i need an eq? I was thinking th eq in the HU and the crossovers in the amp would be ok.

I'm still not sure about getting the line driver. I'm pretty tapped right now. lol

oh didnt know your head had an eq.

then just the line driver, but if your tapped you should just wait.

if your install is done correctly your 2.5v should be ok.
