i have a 1996 f-150, i recently replaced the old deck for an alpine i also put new speakers in. my problem is that when i turn on the headlights or adjust the instrument panel brightness, the stereo shuts off for about 5 seconds, sometimes reseting the whole stereo system. also sometimes when i turn the truck off and then back on, the stereo resets.

i have checked the wires and the dimmer controll wire is hooked correctly. after the stereo power goes out and comes back in the brightness changes like it should. so i really cant figure it out. does anyone know what could be causing these problems or what i could do to fix them?

 I wanna ask a dumb question, Did you cut off the factory plug? Please tell me that you did not hard wire in the radio.

Hacked up or not, we need a Digital Volt Meter

Ground the meter somewhere far away from the radio, put the red lead on the radio ground wire (meter should be on DC Volts) With the radio on and working turn on the lights. The meter should remain on 0 volts (a tenth of a volt is OK) Did it?

Do the same test on the Acc wire and the Constant wire, the only difference is the it should read over 12-volts, turn on the lights, the voltage will drop but it should only drop a tenth or 2 tenths.
    Did it?
