How does polyfill help or not help and is it necessary? Also does it take up ir space? I have two Elemental designs 9KV2's in a JL 8.2 ported micro sub box, please help.
if there going in a ported box, NO you dont need it but a sealed YES, it gives it a deeper sound caused form the heat the sub produces and traps it around the sub, Viking will be able to explain this better, but it does not take up space
If you are using a ported box, "stuffing" is typically not required. As Dreamz stated. In a sealed box the stuffing makes the woofer think it is in a larger box by bending, and heating, and essentially slowing down the sound waves. With enough stuffing you can get about 10% more box volume.
now that weird.because my kicker box is ported and has polyfill in it.it is stapled to the box though.
poly fill CANNOT stop standing waves in box. Well, at least not the ones created in the realm of sub bass, heck, the wavelength of the frequencies iin a sub box are too long to even fully develope in most enclosures.
I know...but i've seen some companies say that crap...its for noobs Viking. Same crap like companies saying "buy this capacitor, it will pull energy from the chi of the universe and stop your lights from dimming"
Ask and you shall recieve...(this was an easy one)... Do a google search for "carver amazing loudspeakers" Might also look up electrostatics and polk audio. And I know for a fact a few martin logans didnt use any fill, though I cant remember which ones so I guess they dont hold much truth in this post....
You asked for a "high end" speaker that does not use polyfill...... I gave you several manufactures that do not use it....no box parameters were indicated.... Then you tell me you sell martin logan and polks and they sound like heck compared to your home audio spks....LOL! I am having serious doubts about your integrity... You have been in the audio realm for 30 years you claim....if this is true, you should be well aware of the FACT that sound quality is a personal and subjective thing..... I have a TRUE ear for what sounds RIGHT...in my mind, And it will surely disagree with others....I DO NOT tell a person what is the best for sound quality or what is right for what they want to hear... We can guide them in the GENERAL direction...but ultimitaly it is up to the actual LISTENER AND PURCHASER that makes the call... Just because you think brand A is better than brand B on musical qualities alone does not make it the truth...... You need to get off your LITTLE high horse
