ok so i really need some help with where to go with my system right now i have installed in my hyundai elantra: pioneer deck DEH-P5100UB pioneer TS-A6972r 6x9's in the back rockford fosgate punch component speakers in the front and a year ago i bought a lightly used pioneer TS-W308D2 12" sub with a prefabricated "thunder" ported box. and is wired with 6 gauge wire the sub is duel voice coil and can handle 400 watts RMS (200 RMS to each voice coil) and i have no idea if its 2ohm or 4ohm i kind of need some help figuring that part out i had a 300 watt RMS fosgate amp running it and it blew up and i was wondering whether i should just replace the amp with a stronger one and keep the same set up OR if i should upgrade and get another pioneer 12 and build a new box and buy an amp that would push both of them nicely OR just sell the sub that i have and start over, i dont really know how my sub that i have stacks up to other subs that are out there and if i should just start over with something of better quality if so i have no idea what to get please point me in the right direction i listen to alot of music of all different kinds and i want a good balance of sound quality with occaisonal really loud teeth vibrating bass and i have about $400 to spend sorry for the super long post i just wanted to get all the information if you guys could help me out i would really appreciate it thanks
If you like the way the subwoofer sounds then keep it, just get another sub amp, you can always get another sub later
By the model you gave the sub is a dual 2 voice coil. Chances are you had it wired to 1 ohm and the amp wasn't stable that low. If you like how it sounded just get another sub amp and wire the sub to 4 ohm and you'll be fine.
alright if i were to get another sub should i build a ported or sealed box? and what kind of amp can i get for around $300 that will power them well?
What kind of music do you listen to? You can get a great amp for under $300. Might I suggest upgrading to better subs upon upgrading the amp? I mean you like what you like but if you are willing to drop that kind of money on an amp you could also get some better subs (pioneer isn't known for making great subs, just saying). If you don't mind giving a budget for 2 subs and an amp we could probably make some good suggestions.
yeah im completly open to any suggestions. i have about $400 and i want the best set up i can possibly get for the money. i listen to literally everything rap/hip hop and rock/alternative but mainly i just need something that can rattle my brain and still have pretty good sound quality.
