Got my pioneer avi n5 today. I have just one question. Is there anybody here who can tell me what wires to hook up or not hook up to make the dvd player work while moving? Got most of it figured out, I just want to be sure before I fry something. Thanks!
watching a DVD while driving isn't a good thing to do, it's very dangerous and you could hurt others by doing this. with that said, all you have to do is ground the parking brake wire. I sure hope you won't be the person watching while driving... Edit: i did a little research... the parking brake method will not work with the N5 models. here's detailed instructions on how to go about it. http://www.avic411.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=10089
It's more for the wife. I use the truck to pull a 5th wheel and my wife and kids like to watch dvd's. I don't think it would be a good idea to watch a movie while pulling that kind of weight. Thanks for the warming though and it would be nice to be able to access all of the navi functions while moving.
I'm going to try it tommorrow. I'll let everyone know how it turns out. Thank you for the info and your time.
I no on my clarion, i couldnt just ground the parking brake wire, i had to put an on/off switch so every time i cut the truck on, i would have to turn the switch off then back on.
I tried it out a little while ago. Everything seemed to be working fine. I'm going to run around town in it tommorrow with my wife and kids, so I'm sure it will be put to the test.
I drove it all around town today and never had a problem. My son watched a couple of movies and it never shut off. It was a pretty easy trick to do. Just take out an un-used wire put it in the second slot and ground it along with the parking brake switch. I haven't hooked up the vehicle speed sensor wire, so I don't know what it would do if I did. But the nav seemed accurate even without it.
