hey guys, i tried to hook up my pg xover today and my front doors really sounded nice but as soon as i turned up the vol my amp went into protect mode. i unhooked it and tried again and all was ok. what gives. heres a pic of it..teah i know its huge. specs are as follows... front out 4 ohm 160 hi pass w/6 db per oct center out 4 ohm 500-3000 band pass out 6 db per oct attenuated 6db. rear out 8 ohm 500-3000 band pass 6 db per oct attenuated 9 db. sub out is 4 ohms 12db @ 80 hz. my plan was to hook up my doors and rear fill w/ the 9 db attenuated signal. so i could run my dash using the nine.5's active crossover at a freq they can handle. well like i said it shut my amp down before i could hook up the rears. the fronts are 4 ohm speakers, and it looks fine to the naked eye. anyone know if i could use my dmm to check it,and if i can.... how
Nice coil lol. The amp must be going to protect when it sees a bad ohm load, i don't know how to check a crossover but you could measure the resistance of the speakers at least with the dmm, see if they are close to 4 ohms or 2 or whatever they are. Or it could be the amp struggling for juice, i had a few amps that did that when my wiring was inadequate lol. As soon as i turn it up a bit it would go to protect.
its not struggling for juice. its my nine.5. my doors are 4ohm final load.with out it it plays fine. nice and loud w/ no shut down. as soon as i added this and wired the doors to it and turned it up. click. my amp shut down.
anyways no worries. i rewired once again. front doors and rear 6x9's are wired together to the front out.(6x9's wired at 8 ohms mono to reduce thier output some with less power.old school trick) and the infinity dash plates are hooked to the rear outs with the active xover set at 300 or so hz hipass. or whatever it is so they dont play bass.
Hey man, if you think the crossover is screwed you could try and hook up both crossovers to the amp but not to the speakers and turn your stereo up a bit and see if the amp still goes to protect. I think that might tell you something lol.
