Ok folks, here is the process that im useing to paint my subwoofers dust cap (my own way and could just as well be applied to the cone the same way)
*sand 800 grit* *primer* *sand 800 grit* *primer * *sand 1000 grit* * paint color of choice* *light sand w/1000 grit* *paint color* *light sand 2000 grit* *paint color NO SANDIND* *clear coat* *clear coat* BE SURE TO CLEAN AREA AFTER SAND
that is the process of my choice.
I will let paint set over night before next coat is applied. (or all day) in warm dry place

the reson for such high grit paper? cause i didnt want to hurt the cap.
the reason for this long of a process? hell idk, just sounds good and sanding between layers will give it a nice roughed up texture for the next layer of paint to "cling" on to (sounds good to me lol what about you?) feal free to chime in on stuff you would or wouldnt do.
pics up in a moment of tap off and first coat of primer.

2 coats of primer, 3 of color and 2 of clear. I'm sure the color will come out very solid. For a sub this is likely to not make a difference. It won't add enough mass to change the T/S parameters. But I would use this cautiously if you ever want to do it on a smaller set of speakers. THAT much paint will start being considerable for a 5.25. Maybe you'll never have to worry about that. Material you are coating will make a difference also. Good luck, look forward to seeing end result.

You do realize that adding the weight of the paint will change the Fs, Qtc. , and Pd of the sub? It will now only handle 12 watts peak power, and the Fs is now 12 Hz......Recommended box size will be 29 cubic feet and a port 19 inches round at 6 feet.....and the F3 will be 698 Hz.

    Just kiddin man!!!!!!
