I'm looking for some help and info on the sound system in my '96 Mustang GT. I'm somewhat familiar with the audio side of cars, though not nearly as much as with the engine and mechanical aspects. So here goes....

My car came with the Mach 460 sound system, which actually sounds fairly decent, but I want to make some changes. First off, I'll say the Mach 460 system has four 6x8 speakers, and 4 tweeters. As far as amps and whatnot, I have no idea. I want more bass from the system, but don't need too much (closer to "supplemental" bass than "blow-your-ears-out" bass). I'm going super low budget on this as well. I'm thinking....

    - Alpine CDA-9884 stereo
    - Kenwood KFC-T207 1” tweeters (4)
    - Bazooka BTA6200 powered sub

I figure (providing they aren't blown out) that I will keep my Mach 460 speakers. I really like that sub; it's small seems like it should put forth the level of bass I'm looking for, and it has a simple, built-in amp. Amp for the tweeters? Upgraded amp for the 6x8" speakers?

Any recommendations or suggestions are welcomed, thanks!

i used to have a 6in bazooka tube on 220 watts. it was nice. from your name is your car a convertable? if so that tube wont be heard with the top down.

it hard to get good bass in a convertable unless you have a lot of power to a good sub. at least a 10 and lets say 300-400 watts to over come top down road noise.

if the stock Mach 460 6x8's still sound good then don't change them. the Mach 460 come with an amp so your 6.x8's and tweets are on that amp.

I would take pedro's advice and go with a 10" sub and a small d class amp to power the sub instead especially if your car is a convertible.
