So now I need to research speakers. I am planning to buy a 50 to 100 watt rms 4 ch Soundstream amp for my Dodge Ram 4x4 four door truck with a Pioneer head unit. As I understand it the wattage of the speaker has to be as much or more than the rms of the amp, correct? I will want to listen to various speakers as suggested, but first I would like to know what you all think are the best brands of speakers for a moderate price for a 50 t0 100 watt rms amp? Should they be coaxial or component, front and rear? Assuming the amp has a 18db bass boost, will I get adequate bass from this 4 speaker setup (I don't want to rattle windows but I like a good bass sound). Would it be better to go with just the front speakers and a subwoofer? Should I go with 2 ohm assuming the amp can handle it? A lot of questions but I know you folks can handle it. OJ
Don't over use the bass boost...you'll fry the speakers in no time. Also the speaker doesn't necessarily have to be the same power handling as the amp is rated to put out...the gain can be adjusted to put out however much power you want. There aren't very many 2 ohm speakers around...only company I know of that makes 2 ohm speakers is Infinity. Doesn't really matter though 40-50 watts at 4 ohms is enough to get plenty loud. I'd do front speakers and a sub stage
you could do JBL components in the front and bridge the rear channel into a sub if you wanted to go that way. I personally.. enjoy have 4 speakers but a lot of guys here will tell you to just go with the front speakers. I just hate not having that rear fill. If you want to save a little money you can do components up front and get coaxials for the rear. Again, just my personal choice.. I prefer to have the same speakers all around so I get the same sound coming both ways. for example, use your headunit and balance all the sound to the front speakers to the rears are getting nothing.. if you can live with the way it sounds .. just get front speakers.. if you like the rear fill.. get rear speakers too. Its all about your ears and how you like your sound. Once you know what you want and what you want to spend I can help you get some exact speaker models for your budget and size.
another way to go is to power your rear speakers with the radio.maybe leave the stock ones in to have more money for a nice set in the front. use a 4ch amp to run the front speakers and bridge the rear channels to a sub that fits your truck. if you go to crutchfield.com you can find something that fits.then look for somthing cheaper online.
