I just replaced one aftermarket head unit for another. Only two wires weren't used: one was orange and it was marked illumination on old harness, second was blue and was marked on old harness and new harness as auto antenna. I hooked up external speakers and sound works. So it has to be something other than the head unit. Any help would be appreciated.
let us know what car you are trying to install it in and the type of stereo you put in as well. make/year sometimes that orange is the 12v... I always though it was red til i looked at the wiring diagram. also the orange can be the constant 12v so when you turn off your car the setting will be saved. just let us know what kind of car and what kind of stereo you are putting in and we can help you out.

I was right about the power... it's orange... you may have some of them mixed up... what you should have done was buy a harness for your stereo that's compatable with your factory wiring so all you would have done was plug it right in instead of hacking up your wiring...
I have an 01 Tahoe....I pulled out a clarion unit (was in when I bought it) and replaced with an alpine unit...The clarion had the adaptor that plugs into the factory harness...I just hooked all the other wires from the alpine to the harness and they matched up color for color....and piece of cake...done... No bose system in it... Willy
