just bought my buddies rockford fosgate e11 1200 watt amplifier and i have no idea how to hook this thing up. dont really know too much about things up in general although i did do my speakers and head unit on my own. HELP!!
oh wow. you shouldn't start anytime soon until you read up on A LOT of stuff. i would go on youtube and do a search on how to install an amp. and just keep looking up any article on car audio you can get a hold of. i started out in 87 by reading every mag i could find. i didn't mess around with anything untill 89. alot has changed in designs but wiring has not.
as soon as i posted this i started researching everything i have a pretty good idea of what to do...except actually wiring the speakers to the amplifier and how the wiring with the head unit works
I don't know much about wiring, but once I posted what I thought I should do here. Others that know more than I do told me how to correct what I had (I had it a bit off). You can look online to get help with the wiring. There is a woofer wiring wizard at http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/rftech/woofer_wizard.asp A company I like is Crutchfield. When you buy products from them, they give excellent help. They have a wiring diagram at http://www.crutchfield.com/learn/learningcenter/car/amplifiers_wiring.html and different ways of wiring are explained at http://www.crutchfield.com/learn/learningcenter/car/amplifiers/sub_amp_guide.html
http://www.the12volt.com/caraudio/woofer_configurations.asp there is how you wire your spks to your amp(assuming you hooking subs to it) as for the power, ground, remote, and rca's they kind of speak for there selves. hook poss out of amp to poss of batt terminal (be sure to put a fuse some were in between "as close to batt as possible). ground to a solid paint free medal part of your car(chassis is the best or neg on the battery) , rcas to the out put on back of hu (or is it input) remote to remote wire at back of hu (mine is blue) not really hard at all. if you feal insecure have the Buddie you bought it off of and have him to help or even just guide you through it and pay him with a ice cold brewsky
i lied i have one. but the most confusing thing to me about wiring the speakers directly to the amp, what do i do with the old wires and the head unit etc what do i leave plugged in?
what kind of car is it does the car have a additional amp if your wiring it to the interior disconnect the wires to the interiors behind the head unit cut of any wire thats been stripped so heres no exposed copper and put but caps on the wires that come out of the speaker jacks on the back of the head unit because if the ground out on any metal it will blow channels on the head unit
