i have a project coming up the weekend after next make a 91 corvette have LOUD clear music it has an old ****ty bose system in it that the owner who is a good friend of mine. the plan i have so far is to below the front door is where the front speakers are located i will haft to build boxes to fit in the space the current speaker assemblys and install either 6 x 9 speaker or 6 inch rounds which would be better replace the 6 inch rounds in the rear of the car. install a new cd player install a amp i also plan to install some extra speaker in the back for added volume what are your suggestions on the cd player amp and speakers i was looking at pioneer speakers and cd player but i do not know the right amp to pick any and all your suggestions are appreciated what kind of amp do you get to handle 4 speakers and possibly a sub? i am trying to achive loud quality sound
dude right place man i know all about bose in car audio from my 83 trans am to my 97 ETC ok he we shall begin 1. bose at the time used 4 mini amps one for each speaker. this means you have to rewire the car speaks bypassing the amps. 2. sound is round always remember that its the best thing to consider when thinking of installing an oval 6x9 vs a 6.5. Therefore it would be my advice to install a set of components up front and a set of 6.5 three ways in the rear. For speaks im gonna reccomend obviously what i have becuase i think they are the best. Up front get a set of infinity kappa perfect 6.1's i have a set of my own and trust me the sound cant be beat. For the rears i reccomend infinity kappa 6.37is. An amp to power these is jl audio 300/4. 3. cd player, this is crucial b.c this will make or break your entire system. be sure to get one with three sets of preamp outputs, front rear and sub. I have an alpine and love it and many people will agree. Alpine Pioneer Kennwood and Eclipse are my reccomendations for that. 4. the extra speaker i think you mean is a sub? thats the case jl audio all the way. 1 w6v2 would be perfect matched with a jl 500/1. Some other good subs are diamond audio, image dynamics, infinity kappa, and kicker
dude look at my edited post 1k will def cover the hu and speaks and speak amp you may be lackin a sub but with this set up trust me youll have pretty good sound
subs are for bass only put treb through it and youll fry it my hu is an alpine cda-9807 out of date and 2 years old wat capabilities are you looking for? cd? mp3? wma? ipod hook up?
heres a good starter hu http://www.circuitcity.com/ssm/Pion...41960/catOid/-13089/rpem/ccd/productDetail.do
also heres a quick price out assuming you use ebay or some other discount place to buy items Pioneer hu 140 Infinity Perfects 6.1 230 Infinity Kappa 6.37s 150 JL Audio 300/4 300 Thats 820 for a DAMN good system
thanks for the info on that i found out on the corvette fourms that i can put up to 6.5 inch round speakers in thr fron on the 91 vette and up to 8 inch round speakers in the back with little or no trouble
8 inch is more for a bass/sub speak. no one makes a 8 inch speaker that im aware of. however this would help your bottom end without the need of a sub. the pefects up front will provide plenty of treb and mid, so a set of 8 inch kicker or infinity subs will provide good bass.
I thought sound is in the form of a wave...how is it "round"...just wondering I've heard different points about it being "round" and being only a "wave"
heres even a quote from viking about the matter "that ALWAYS sounds better than a Oval speaker. Last I knew, sound waves are round in nature, not oval"
yeah....round is definitely better, not so much for the shape of sound but for the linearity of the structure of the cone. an oval cone has strong points and weak points, the round is alot more uniform....... get a "disposable" 6x9(of course IMO they are ALL disposable),a signal generator, and a strobe light.......you'll see that cone is some awfully weird shapes under the strobe at and around its RF..... now... as for blowing a sub by playing treble through it......aint gonna happen. granted any amp will blow any speaker(just give it enough time....and clipping), but playing a sub full range will typically just sound bad. sure if you play a clipped full range signal the DC will "burn" the coil, but thats not the frequency range but the signal itself. Adding a sub also allows the system to play louder AND cleaner. It allows you to highpass the mids taking out the bass that messes up the higher frequencies and raises the power handling some(SOME!!!!). I wouldnt have a system with out some sort of dedicated low frequency driver.....even if its just a long throw 5" woofer. For a grand you should be able to put together quite a decent system. If your into "gambling" on ebay you can do it for a lot less. If you really wanna do it on the cheap(and the bose 4.5" speakers are still good) you can use them for the midbass. I had four(out of a corvette ironically),two in each door, along with a pair Peerless softdome tweeters(in a d'appolito array) and two kicker comp tens in the trunk, and it sounded pretty damn good. Autotek amps and sony es head, I probably had somewhere around $1200 in the system, but most of that was in amps.
Bose has some of the best engineering I've ever seen, but thier drivers suck. Bose enclosures are fantastic, though. if your bose drivers are blown, and I wouldn't be suprised if they are, try to find a good replacement to fit into the stock enclosures- this is the cheapest way to get a decent sound out of a corvette. (these cars are not designed for sq) - lousy speaker placement will haunt you all day long in this car, they are built to go fast and look good, and they do. use a single aftermarket amp to run all cab speaks and forget the individual ones, the little suckers are quite problematic. You can get some really good spl out of the back of that car if you want to, they have a great design for putting a thump on the backside of your head. and whatever you do, get a good HU, don't fool with a $140 unit, when spending the extra bill will totally pay off. and viking and ranger say leave the caps at home -
hey i like the unit i picked for him its not a bad unit its on sale from 170! my hu cost 300 back when i got it i think, i didnt want him blowing half of his 1k on a hu tho!
ah, but investing in a good HU is never a mistake. I always suggest getting more than what you're looking for in that department, you'll never be sorry. I love my eclipse ps.. wasn't knocking your choices, just adding my 2cents..
i know my hu and yes i will make sure to clarify was rated as one of the best of its time and voted the best mp3 and wma capable hu buy. Alpine CDA-9807
thanks for the info an ideal we were tossing around was to build a speaker box in the rear of the car and install 4 of the 6 inch infinity speakers that were suggested what would that do to the system?
