whatup. ok. well, im getting my first system for my car in the next week. there might be one possible snag. i need to install a new head unit and, from the looks of it, the dash is gonna be a bitch to remove and work around. i drive an 01 impala. has anybody ever installed a head unit in the dash on one of these before or does anybody know a site where i could find so tips. any answers will be much appreciated.
01 Impala, not what I would recommend for a first install. The kit you need will be the Metra 99-2003. Make sure you use the ISO mount brackets for a really clean look. Mounting depth might also be a problem. Now for the dash, I am working from memory and I'm 50 so it aint what it used to be. The complete dash has to come off. A panel on each side must come off, there is one screw under each panel. Remove the panel under the the steering wheel. There should be one screw behind it. Above the instrument cluster there should be one or two screws can't remember which. The dash should now snap off. Oh almost forgot, welcome. Oh you don't have an ignition wire behind your dash, I highly recommend you get a data interface. Because it Provides “Healthy Status” report to the Class-2 system Peripheral Electronics
