ok so my friends knows nothing about car audio. He just got a buick wagon and wants me to gut the car and make it sound good. I am on a budget so i can't get top of the line across the board, but this is what i came up with. let me know your thoughts . . . subs Diamond Audio D312D2 400 Watts 12 Inch Impedance: Dual 2 Ohm RMS Power Handling: 400 Watts Peak Power Handling: 800 Watts box Car Audio H212V Subwoofer Dual 12" 2 Cu. sounds pretty good, depending on what he really is looking for in a system. I prefer bandpass in a large car for bass music, but sealed boxes for more punch like rock.. ported boxes are great for high excursion subs.. diamonds are good subs, so sealed or bandpass before ported JMO... Pioneer speakers sound good, and so do clarion, but I wouldn't mix.. The components are extra nice, but I'd ditch the 4x6 and put in a nice horn instead! I like the older power akoustic stuff 'cause it's cheap and sturdy, but don't know anything about the newer "high power" stuff from them.. and JVC makes decent HU's..
Stay clear of 3-way speakers. Way too bright when a simple two way will suffice and give a much smoother response. Everything should work well together, don't worry too much about mix matching speakers when they are that far apart. And, honestly, don't use dash speakers at all if you don't have to. Put more money into the door speakers, maybe an amp for the highs. Dash speakers draw the center image too much to the passenger it resides in front of, plus, the sound from the dash will arrive at your ears before anywhere else and blurr any chance of real stereo seperation or depth to the sound. The only horn I would ever put into a vehicle would be old school wave guides or a "wicked one" enclosure. When testing the subs try many different locations and firing directions. A customer of mine has an older supra that we were playing around with. Believe it or not, the loudest came from firing the subs to the side. A difference between 140.1 db to 145.3 db on our term lab. So, now we are building something based on that. Also, the Ford Probe gets the highest number with the subs facing back but the enclosure pulled up about halfway just beyond where the seats fold down. he only had a 2 db gain but that's almost the same as doubling your power, for free. Great deck choice, you should be very pleased. And Diamond makes very nice stuff. The ported should do very well in the vehicle. Peace
