Well my speakers for the Ranger arrived today so I though I would share. These are my rear speakers JBL GTO8626 6x8" coaxial. (27.00 shipped) notice the design of the speaker in how much room it gives the woofer to flex.. that looks very promising. Also like the ability to rotate the tweeter in any direction i want. Ok next is my front stage speakers. These are my SoundStream EXC.4 components. (43.00 shipped) These really impressed me with the quality of the build. The tweeters are huge. The magnets are these 4" woofers are stupid big and heavy. The crossovers look very nice quality with a tweeter protection lightbulb and also switches for both woofer and tweeter levels. They also gave me some nice mounting adapters for the tweeter the one I really like is the angle mounted tweeter bracket.. that is prolly going to be perfect for where i am going to mount it. These are going to match up perfectly to my amp which runs 60 x 4 @ 4 ohms rms. I can't wait to get it all in! here is a link to the soundstream manual http://www.soundstream.com/manuals/EXACT COMPONENTS/EXACT- components.pdf Next is going to be the review on how they sound.
Viking these sound streams are actually several years old the guy I bought them from just never opened the box. Everything was still sealed up. You can't buy this particular set anymore but from what I read these were prolly one of the top of the line that SoundStream offered back in the day. Build quality on them are very nice. Really can't wait to get everything hooked up to hear them.
dash, they have stock 5" round speakers there but with the bracket im getting off crutchfield and the spacer i got off ebay I am going to be able to fit those 4" woofers in there. Reason I have to go with 4" is because they use a stock 3 hole design for a pure 5" speaker not 5.25. So with such an odd location its easier to put in a little smaller speaker rather than a little bit larger speaker. Their actual location is in the very back top of the dash facing up toward the window.
I did have a question.. as it came to me on the ride home.. can i put something under the speakers where I install them in dash. Reason I am saying is .. basically they will be sitting on a hole in the top of the dash.. not sealed off at all. So maybe if i made some sort of big bowl out of deadener and put in there in the hole.. then mounted the speakers on top. Then cut a hole into a sheet and place that over the woofer to seal it off. Not sure but would that help?
something like this.. the red is deadener. of I leave it as is doing nothing to it.. its being held up by 3 brackets coming from each side of the hole. Which leaves tons of space around the woofer for air to go in and out as it pleases.
I see what you mean. Those speakers are only gunna be realistically playing the upper midbass on up in that location, so a perfect seal is not required. But to help out the situation, what you describe would be fine. Perhaps some dacron stuffing behind the speaker, and some custom plates made of abs plastic or masonite, in the order of around 1/8 in thickness would sufficice. Even the polybag technique would help. Silicone caulking always does wonders too, and as a last resort, duck tape!!!!!!
just figure i can stuff something back there.. when i get the grills off and the speaker half mounted i will take a pic and see what you guys think.
well so far ive come up with either packing some dynamat extreme under and around the speaker or this little sucker here http://www.crutchfield.com/S-AFR3VlEUp99/cgi-bin/ProdView.asp?g=760&I=237XT40&search=speaker+baffle
