PLEASE HELP ME First of all I have a type R-12 running off a MRP-M500 and i was looking to sell this system. How do you safely remove the amp without damaging anything? I'm probably going to leave the RCA cable and the remote wire so what should i do to these wires? I'm going to upgrade to a Soundstream Tarantula T5-15 running off a Hifonics Bxi 1210d wired at 1 ohm. Is this a good system to upgrade to? (I'm only looking for SPL) How much louder do you think this setup would be than my old setup? Is 4 gauge enough to power this amp or should i go bigger? Also, what size fuse should i get for both 4 gauge and 2 gauge and 0 gauge? Lastly, what budget aftermarket terminals do you suggest for the big 3? Thank you so much and I hope you can help me out with all of these questions. What do you think of this box for this sub? http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7499_Sonic+Sub+Box-+1SV15.html Here's the amp link: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_17597_Hifonics+BXi+1210D.html Sub link: http://www.soundstream.com/AudioProducts/Subwoofers/tarantula.htm THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I GREATLY APPRECIATE IT!!!
To disconnect it you need to remove the power wire from the battery first, wrap it in electrical tape and tuck it away somewhere so it wont go near the battery post, then you can unhook your amp. As for it being louder, well your going from a 12 inch woofer to a 15 and a 500 watt amp to an amp that makes around 1200, it will be louder but maybe not as much as you think it will. The rules are you need to double the power to get 3db increase of sound. So you doubling the power and increasing your cone space from 12 to 15 inches so you should be louder. I would go for at least 1 gauge wire if you can afford it.
but the amp only supports a maximum of 4 gauge wire. what about the fuse and the rca and the remote wire?
so run 1 guage to the distribution then 4 guage to amp, 4 guage is fine, i just like to run the biggest wire possible. the rca and remote just hook them up to the new amp when you install it. As for fuses just run what the amp has in it, if it has 2 40 amp fuses just run a 80 amp fuse.
im not gonna have the new system till later though. wouldnt i have live wires? should i electrical tape the rcas and the remote wire? when im removing the amp do i take the fuse out first? or do i disconnect the negative first? or positive? walk me through this please
if you disconnect it from the battery you will not have any power going to the amp at all so it wont matter how you take it out of the car. You can put tape on the remote turn on and the rcas also but they dont have any electrical current in them.
is this correct? To safely remove any car audio - start by disconnecting the battery negative terminal. disconnecting the positive terminal after the negative. Now you can remove the inline fuse on your power wire - under hood, close to battery. Now unscrew all of the amplifier connections. Cover the ends the power, ground, and remote with electrical tape and zip tie them together and secure them. You also want to protect the ends of the RCA cables - tape them individually then zip tie them together and secure them.
to disconnect the power all you have to do is interrupt the flow, if there isn't a full path for the power to go, it wont. the rest sounds like good ideas to me, keep it nice and neat, easy to find later, wont get tangled up, wont have connections to complete the circuit when you connect the power back up but you really only have to tape the 'hot' wire.
hot wire? Thats the positive wire running to the battery right? I removed the the amp, the amp ground, sub, and speaker outputs on the amp completely from the truck. My positive wire is still at the battery but its not hooked up to it. Also, i removed the fuse and taped the wire. I taped the remote wire and the RCAs as well. Am i doing something wrong?

just make sure that the power wire under the hood is taped well and zip tie it to something underhood away from the battery, all else is good.
