Ok... Friday I go to the shop where I used to buy all my car audio stuff....it is about 40 miles from my house....I walk in with my broken HU (KDC-X815) and talk to the owner...I had not seen him since I bought this HU (probably 6 or 7 years)....he pulls out this HU unit that he had repaired by Kenwood a year ago...It is a model KDC-X817...I give him my broken unit and $100.00 and it is mine....Sweet!!!! Just gotta get the time to get it put into the truck....I have it sitting here powered up so I can check it out......anyway...gonna pull the Eclipse out and keep it for my toyota.... Willy
Yeah...I had talked about the deal, but friday I actually went and got it....and guess what?? I just put it in the dash.....I need that outer trim ring....The one off of mine did not fit...The owner could not stay the other night (had to get to a highschool basketball for his kid) so he said he would get one for me...Everything else is perfect....Just fired it up and listened a bit....leaving work for home in a couple minutes.....Gonna rock it out on the way home... I will keep you posted... Willy
I LOVE IT!!!! When I have the volume low/med, the sound is nice and full....When I turn up the volume, it stays that way, just gets louder and more powerful sounding..I notice that the midbass seems to sound better than it did on the Eclipse...Right now I am still using factory speakers and my sub is running off of two bridged channels of the Blaupunkt...I should notice a big difference when I push the sub with my better amp and run the Blaupunkt in double bridged (2 channel stereo) to those Infinity Reference separates...Another cool thing is I can run the front pre's out as full range and the sub out as full range and dial their xover points at the amps....Then I can pick the high pass freq in the HU for the rears (fill..running off of HU amp).....I also love the fact that the sub out level goes from -15 to +15......I put in one of my favorite discs with very clean tight low end...I dialed in the amp gain with sub out at "0".....I listen to a wide variety of music....some without alot of sub type bass (old Zep, Jimi Hendrix, Old Black Sabbath, Deep Purple) and I can bump the sub level up a few notches....Also if I listen to something like Prince or come across a song on a Rap station, I can calm the sub bass down a few clicks.....With the Eclipise it was 0-6 and that was all you got....0 was all the way down (off) and 6 was all the way up....I prefer to run EQ flat all the time.... On the Eclipse and the Kenwood both, I run the EQ flat....and I use no loudness on either...The Kenwood remote is much more responsive too... All in all.....I am very very happy with this Kenwood.... Willy
I really love the older Kenwoods, the work and sound really good. I own a KDC-X617, a KDC-MP8017 (currently installed) and a back up KDC-516S. I have had great luck with these HU's and like you, I love the Kenwood remotes.
I even listened to the radio on the way in to work this morning (35 mile trip) and all the stations are crisp and clean.....When I originally bought my 815, I was completely happy with it....It had exactly what I wanted..... The HU I had before that was a KDC-9000 (I think)....It was a CD/Tuner...all pre-out....defeatable tone controls, switchable 2v/4v preouts....I loved it too. Anyway.....I am completely happy with it.....and I have been happy with every piece of Kenwood car audio gear I have ever bought and or installed and or used.... Willy
