Yeah.....it sounds like a cheesy personal ad....and I guess in a way it is.... I've been lurking here for quite some time, figured I'd finally introduce myself. I was a MECP certified installer in '93, worked for a few local shops, but mostly did custom work for friends and friends of friends. My first "real" amp was a used Autotek 7204. Then a 7050XX(I used that for subs....stable to 1 ohm BRIDGED...hell yeah!!). Sadly they were both stolen and I had to start over. I could spend hours going over the systems I've had since then, but figured the first would be the best intro. Right now I'm working on a "basic" setup in a standard cab first gen S10. Two Peerless CC 10's, Infinity RSDS 5" DOME mids, and some "custom" 4x6 planar tweets. All run off of two Alpine 3566 amps bridged(the ones with the faux woodgrain...mmmmmm goood). Front end is Sony ES....the real ES. They dont call the new sony "xplode" for nothing....lol. Installing has gotten alot tougher for me since a bad car accident last year. Progress is sssslllllloooooowww, and dependant on friends/girlfriends help. I got the knowledge, just aint got the physical capability anymore. If you havent figured it out yet....I use all old school stuff. I just havent been that impressed with the newer stuff today. What has happened to Autotek, Hifonics. Lanzar, and many other former Zed Audio customers is just a damn shame. Plus its fun to get all the amps/speakers/heads I dreamed of gettin back when I was a teenager. Well I guess that's enough rambling...turning into a mini novel..... Thanks for the great site guys......
welcome to the site, camu.. great introductory post, and I'm happy to see use of planar tweets in mobile audio.. don't get to see that much, and dome mids- (woot, woot!), home audio in a car makes me dizzy with happiness. Hope you like it here, and happy to see that the good old sony is still kicking.. cause the new stuff sure sucks!
Thank ya thank ya.... The planar tweets are actually....cough cough....monsoon computer planars...the big ones. I picked up a bunch of them and have used them in a few different home projects. I currently have five of them running from 80hz up in my 5.1 HT, a little directional, but still hard to beat the SQ. This will be the first time for a car environment. I'm a little concerned about how they will weather, between the heat and the uv they will definitely get a torture test. IF they fail, oh well...I'll just take them apart and redo them with some mylar and aluminium wiring(like the old Magnepans). I've always loved the sound of planars/electrostatics(next project...evil grin, though the prospect of HV in a car is a "little" scary). The Infinity RSDS are actually the short lived CAR AUDIO ones, scored them on fleabay a couple years ago. Theyre very similar to the home RSDS, but a little tougher I would imagine. And yes my old xrc900ES is still kickin....but im saving my XES for my "real" system. Plus I still have to locate a display unit, and a car for that matter....lol. But of course I have the system ready to go.....waveguides....soundstream 10.0.....autotek 7600, two 7300's......a pair of jbl 1500gti's..... and a few other goodies......
