I just bought a new door speaker setup a couple months after getting my subs.

Here is what I am running

Low End Boston Acoustic 6x9s in the rear 35w RMS
Mid Range Boston 6 1/2 Coax in the front 50w RMS
Mid Range Boston M1 Tweeter 35w RMS
Kenwood Head Unit 5.0v Preouts 50wx4ch

With the HPF on my head unit turned to 80 Hz it gets pretty loud and I am fairly happy with the way it sounds now, there is a little distortion when I turn the head unit all the way up but not too much. If I do decide to purchase a quality amp (I was thinking an Alpine or Memphis 300w) what kind of effects would it have on the loudness and quality? Would it be worth it?

    Thanks for your time

well generally more wattage will give you a cleaner sound, using and amp will improve the dynamics of the sound and give you a better sound stage, it won't necessarily be louder(it probably will a little bit).

a amp will help a lot. it will be louder and very clear as compaired to your HU.

So Im definitely sold on the amp, but I blew out one of the 6x9s in the rear. I think its because they're low end Coax speakers from boston and there are no crossovers back there, so they are trying to hit on bass which they don't need to be doing, I have two 12" kickers. So Im going to go see if I can find a good deal on some higher quality 6x9s then I'll throw on that amp in a couple weeks.

    Thanks for the input.

are the 6x9s seprate from the subs.cause the air pressure from the subs would destroy them.

a friend at work learned the hard way.his stock ones tore themselves apart.

Yea they are separate but I found out today that the rattling I heard was just a clip in my door panel that had come loose so my 6x9s are still good yay!

I found a 250w Alpine Amp today, I think I am going to go with that one. I've heard a lot of good things about the clarity from Alpine and it should be pushing about 35w over four channels which works out just great for me. I think it should really make my door speakers come alive (not to mention take a hell of a load off my head unit)

I'll post some pics, this should be my first self install (with the help of a knowledgeable friend of course) I can hardly wait.
