so i dug up my old stereo stuff to stuff into my truck. problem is i dont remember anything about my subs. they are old school 12" kicker solobarics, would like to find out specs on them, ie ohms, wattage ect. any help would be appreciated. I scored a great deal on a kicker zx-1000.1 amp, and i am wondering if this will be too much for the subs? originally was running them off an old pheonix gold ms250, but that went up in smoke when i hooked everything up.. pics of subs
u can always turn the gains all the way down and see if they can handle that.. and then increase as u go.. it wont be putting out a ton of watts at 2 ohm.. so u should be ok
What shriver said... Think of the gains as the throttle to your engine....run to hard and too fast...poof.... the smoke in the subs will be released into the air! We want to keep all smoke contained within the electronics! LOL!
thanks guys, i used a multimeter and found them to be 4 ohm, single voice coils. so i wired them in series, running them at 8ohms around 3-350 watts with that amp. they are pounding nicely!! i have 2- 6 1/2 kicker component sets i plan on adding soon with a kicker zx650.4 amp. if those start to overpower the subs, i may have to go to 2 ohms and 1000 watts and try the gain trick.. thanks
going to a lower impedance will yield more power.....but not always better sound... dampning factor falls off and woofers can get sloppy sounding.... just food for thought.
