I'm brand new on this forum and I was hoping someone could help me out... I had a complete stereo system put in at a local car audio shop in my town... He has since gone out of business and I have blown my subs...

I have Two 12" MTX TNP212D-2 in a Terminator box... They sell the same box on ebay for about $200

I had to replace my amp not too long ago with a New HiFonics BRZ1200.1D Monoblock 1200 watt Amp which was a lot more powerful than the Alpine one I had before...

Well I was listening to a new band, Ghostland Observatory, that I saw at DeLuna Fest at the beach and I blew one of my subs...

So, I'm looking to replace the entire box and subs with a box that has Ports this time around and hits harder and can withstand my current HiFonics 1200 watt amp...

My head unit is a Clarion CZ-500

So, If anyone has suggestions on a complete sub box with ports, the help is much appreciated!!! I'd like to stay with two twelves and keep it right around $200 including shipping if at all possible... Oh, and space is an issue too... The current box hangs over the back seat of my 2003 Toyota Tacoma Extended Cab and I have to put the passenger seat all the way back to keep it from coming forward when I hit the brakes... It would be nice to have a box that fits on the seat ledge and not hang over, but I'm open for anything right now... Thanks, Jon

I'm not sure if I can help, this blowing sub thing is just going to keep happening no matter what. You see, its not the subs, its you. I'm willing to bet that the bass boost on the amp is turned up, the gain is also up to high and the loudness on the radio is on with the bass turned up there also. Your expecting to much and using all the knobs on the HU and Amp for all the wrong reasons. ^_^

So do this, select a sub, post a link to the manufactures specs and lets see what we can do for you box wise. A ported box will get you more output and maybe prevent your desire to crank everything up. Also a ported box will be larger than a sealed box. But it will perform much better for you. But typically for a 2 12-inch woofers we will need a box with around 3.5 to 4 cu ft.

So when you select a woofer let me know and lets see what we can do for you

Actually, I was told that this amp was Way too powerful for my MTX subs... The last amp was installed under my driver's seat and somehow had moisture from the Florida humidity, so I placed the New HiFonics amp Up and Out of the way... Since then, the sound has been Great, but the Sub controls are controlled from my Clarion head unit... Therefore, I'm looking for a set of subs that can be supported by this amp... It's a small truck, so the sound is Great... And I definitely need a port so it hits harder... I did find a ported box and it was IN FACT Bigger than my sealed box, so I see what you mean there... Surely, there's a box out there that's ported that is 15 inches in depth (size of the ledge in the back cab of my truck)... Thank You for the help and insight! My budget is $200 and I'm determined to find something online 'Ready To Go' that will fit in my truck rather than having something built and getting ripped off...

Absolutely Kcox! I wouldn't be here if I didn't need help... The thing is I know little to nothing about what I'm doing... I was told all the sub controls are in my Clarion head unit, but I did take a look at the side of my amp and here's what I saw... There's 5 different controls on the side; Level is in the middle, Phase is All the way down, Bass is in the middle, Sub Sonic is All the way down, and Low pass is in the middle... I guess the dude that installed this for me adjusted these controls because I have never touched these... I only control the bass from the head unit... It goes up to 6 and I usually keep it at 1 or 2 depending on the type of music I'm listening to...

So, what I am looking for at the end of the day is a subwoofer box already built with two 12 inch subs already installed and ready to go... with ports... and I'd really like the depth to be around 15 inches that way I can drive with my seat pushed back... It's a small truck to begin with, but my philosophy is "Go Big or Go Home!" LOL

I appreciate the help and please please please somebody send me a link to something that will work with both my head unit and be supported by my amp...

    Thanks, Jon

But like ranger said, You might have to choose the sub you want. There are many brands of subs and it is really impossible to tell someone what kind of sub to get. Are you looking for sq or spl? I can't think of anywhere someone could buy 2 good 12" subs and a custom enclosure for $200. And if you do find someone who tells you that they have the exact sub-woofer/enclosure set-up that you are looking for for $200... be very afraid.

So, search for a sub that you like, post a link and someone will design a box for you for free. Now THAT is a heck of a deal.

Thanks Kcox! sorry for sounding dumb, but what is sq or spl?!! (square or round maybe??? My current MTX subs around Round)... Not sure if that's what you meant or not...

Hifonics Brutus BRZ12D4 12" 2400 Watt Car Subwoofers... Are these any good?!! I saw these last week on ebay for $159 including box and free shipping... the only problem I have with these is the box is 17 3/4 in depth which means my seat would not be able to go all the way back... I need 15 inches for the back seat ledge in my truck... plus the listing expired and they are out of stock... At the very least, I know all subs aren't the same... The MTX's I had were good, but I know I could have had Better... After the Alpine amp shorted out and I got the HiFonics, I could Definitely tell a difference, only the MTX subs obviously couldn't handle the HiFonics amp, otherwise I wouldn't be where I am now... I know little to nothing about subs, but maybe you could point me in the right direction of a Website where I could see a selection of subs in my price range that Match my HiFonics Amp...
I've been to Crutchfield, but those subs are way too expensive for me...
I'm also trying to get a 'ball park' price range of what I might get for my blown Terminator sub box with one slightly working MTX 12" sub and one blown... I can put that towards the purchase of a new box that actually fits in my Tacoma...

Thank you very much for the help!!! It is much appreciated!!! I Need something better in my truck... The current conditions are driving me crazy... I NEED BASS!!! :)
    Thanks, Jon

Np, I know how frustrating it can get.

Sq means sound quality, spl means sound pressure level. Everything you do to your system will enhance one of these but take from the other. Very basically, do you want good sounding music or big loud bass.

Thanks, went to the website and lots to choose from!!!

After talking to some friends, I'm thinking I need to go down to a set of 10's instead of 12's to save some space...

They said in my small truck I won't be able to tell much difference... Is that true?!!

I don't listen to a lot of rap, mostly rock and some reggae... So I'd like a set of subs that would still sound good if I did listen to a song with a lot of bass... I've learned not to turn my stereo much past 34 or 35 (My Clarion head unit goes to 40)...

I'm getting a lot of mixed messages about a Ported Box... Some say a ported box will not sound as good INSIDE my truck as a sealed box...

I've also been told to get an AMERICAN made box and not a Chinese Machine made box...

And the box needs to be around 12 inches in depth, doesn't matter how tall and I'd like the Back of the box to be straight, and the front of the box (where the subs go) needs to be ANGLED 45 degrees UP so my seat doesn't hit the subs when I push it all the way back... So what's a Good Brand of box that won't break my bank?!! Don't most boxes go for around $100?!!

So, now that I've completely screwed everyone up, What can you offer me for a BLACK box with two 10" woofers that can be supported by my Hifonics Amp?!! and I've sort of figured I won't be able to get much with $200, I'd really like an honest opinion of what would sound the best without completely wrecking my bank account... perhaps $300 - $350 or maybe you'll completely surprise me and come back with something at $200 since I'm going with 10's...

I'd like to do something SOON! No Bass in my truck is killing me...

Thank you very much for your help!

    Jon

Sounds like you have done your research on the box, have you gave thought to building your own? My personal opinion if it cant be ported its not for me. Also 8" speakers are deff underplayed with audio lovers who are dealing with limited space. I have two 8" in my extd. cab chevy that sounds great for what they are, people have told me they never would have guessed they were 8's. Also check your local craigslist for used boxes and speakers, but be sure to do your research.

Looks like I'm going with Alpine Type R's... I found a guy on ebay who builds boxes and he sells custom truck boxes with an angled from for $140 with shipping for a sealed box... I'm no carpenter, so building a box is out of the question... So now all I need is speakers... So I did a quick search and there are multiple types of TYPE R's.... Different model numbers and some are 600 watts and others are 1800 watts... Since I only have a 1200 watt amp, I probably don't want the 1800... Which model would be optimal for my truck?!! Thanks for the help!
