Hey guys, Im the new guy so dont laugh too hard. Im wondering if it would be a mistake to put two sets of Alpine components in my car? Is that normal?

Thank you! I dont know what im doing, clearly haha.

So heres the deal, I want to put 2 sets of ALPINE SPR-17S 6.5's AND 2 sets of 6X9 Explodes in a WS6 Trans am. (Build a box for the 6X9's) I have done a lot of reading and its clear to me the 6.5's are power hungry. The 6X9's have an RMS of 100w per speaker. I want to do things right this time, I like LOUD and CLEAR power. Will an INFINITY Reference 475a 4-Channel amp have enough power? I plan to have two 475a amps, and I want to add an amp to run two subs as well. As of now the only have the 6X9's, iv had them for a year and I feel like it would be a shame to not include them. soooo good idea, bad idea? Dont be afraid to tell me exactly what you think, if im being stupid, please say so!
    thanks, Aaron

not so stupid, by i can tell you are quit new to this.. if you want good clean sound with good clean bass, you must first tell us your budget. you can go super cheap for possibly ok sound, or you can do it right and put a little bit of money into it. its up to you. i my self would do it right, take time, save money, get good stuff.
good quality that i hear alot are infinitiy, rainbow, focal (very pricy along with rainbow) crap there are lots. just search and find all you can in you budget and then come back and we will help weed out whats crap and whats good.
    SONY SPKRS ARE CRAP LOL

ok, iv looked around and I really like ALPINE SPR-17S, If I went that way I would also get TYPE R SPR-17C, 6.5" COAX for fill, and a type R sub, Right now im trying to figure out my mids and highs, Ill add a Sub later on. BUT on the flip side I also like the Polk Audio MM6501 MM Series 6.5, again I would match the brand with the coax and go with Polk Audio MM651 MM 6.5 for fill. I like the Kappas, But I like the polk and Alpine more. If I need to spend more on mids and highs let me know. Now comes to matching the mids/highs with an apm...I dont want to cut myself short on power. Heres is where im at on amps, INFINITY Reference 475a, Alpine PDX-4.150, Infinity KAPPA FOUR or FIVE..(The kappas are class D amps, is that a good idea for mids and highs?)
Anyway, let me know what you think. Thanks again guys! every little bit helps

kappas vs polk vs alpine but prefer polk or alpine. go alpine, i my self do not have any experience with any of the three but i havent heard much on the polk as much as i have on the kappas or alpine, and for the amp go alpine just to mach your setup. all are great amps, but go ahead and tell us a rough price range (shoot a lil low cause you will get results just out of you range LOL) cause there are way more brands than the few you have listed at same or greater quality. and as i had mentioned, take your time and research and many good things will come. (dont hesitate to second guess your self on a second opinion)

Iv been spending a lot of time reading about different amps. One thing im not sure on is Class A,B amps, or Class D amps? Will a class D amp push my mids and highs as they were ment to be? Also my alpine components have a Rms of 110W do I need to get an amp that will push that full 110W? Or will a 75W amp be enough? Thanks again guys!

a 75 watt per channel amp will do just fine. buy the best you can afford. don't settle for what you can buy now just to get it done quick.

my front speakers are only getting 40 watts each RMS and it gets plenty loud, but i do have 8 speakers up front.

ive heard alpines and really liked their sound.

when looking for an amp don't go by MAX power, go by rms and at a decent voltage that your car puts out. so look for an amp rated from 12.5 to 13.8ish.

if its rated to do 75 watts at 14.4v and your car puts out 13.5 when hot then you'll never get the full "clean power" out of that amp.

    so 75 x 2 @ 12.5 OR.... 100 x2 at 14.4v. that way you'll be closer to 75watts or more at a lower voltage.

its late and im tired. i hope some of this made sense.

you don't really need tons of power to get good sound. you need unclipped power. less distortion is always better.

Thanks you! This helps a bunch! Im buying audio components for a car I dont even have yet, although I know what car im going to buy (98-02 WS6 Trans Am), and I know what will fit in it. Im just waiting for the right deal. As I search for the right car im also on ebay looking for amps and speakers. I spend a lot of time on the web reading reviews. Im in no real hurry to buy components, but I want to have everything ready to go in when I bring the car home. You guys have been a huge help, Thanks again.

I feel like im dragging this out but I have been reading about the JL Slash 300/4..It puts out 75X4w RMS with a 2 or 4 ohm load. The input voltage is 11 volts. I don't know what the T/A im putting all of this in will put out as far as volts, but its a 5.7L V8 motor. I feel like the car will put out more than enough power to the amp? Am I taking crazy?

Also this amp will be pushing a set of Alpine SPR-17S components with an RMS of 110 and a set of Alpine SP-R17C with 100w RMS. Is this a good match?

most all cars can do 13.5v average.

ive heard what that amp can do. its a great amp, but can get pricey. has a great crossover built in too.

250 to 350 is about what ive seen them go for used.

Im not sure im going to be able to talk myself into buying new. I have been watching ebay for used JL's...Is there another brand I should look into rather than JL?

I'm very happy with my 2000 Eclipse 4 chl amp.EA3422 is the model # I have, and it is a very clean amp.

There are alot of choices,if you see one that you think is good,do a search and see what people think of them.

Or just ask on the forum.

So I got all excited and bought new alpine type R components....Today I came accrost a new set of type X components for not much more than what I spent for the R's. How much better are the x's over the r's other than about $60.00 of my hard earned money?

The R's run at 110 RMS..The X's run at 75 RMS...I guess I just always thought the more power the better? But I also feel like you get what you pay for, with anything audio related.
