i got 2 alpine 15" type r 1542d and i need an amp for these babies my hifonics brutus 1610d blew out so im guessing i need a bigger amp im new at this so i need help on picking a really good amp
depending on what impedance you were running the amp, it should have been a great amp for your type r's. If you want a really good amp, you should let us know what kind of budget you are dealing with... Also, is your electrical system beefed up to handle the extra power?
hmm to tell you the truth idk about any of that installation stuff my friend installed it since he knows how to and i know when i was playing it the lights did dim flicker just a lil sometimes and the amp was at 2 ohms thats all i know o and the budget doesnt really matter im guessing $400 is the highest il go
hmmm, I don't think it was wired at 2ohms. if your subs are dual 4ohm then you can't get a 2ohm impedance, only a 4ohm and a 1ohm final impedance. Anyway, if you go with a bigger amp then you'll probably have to do some electrical upgrades. HO alternator, the big 3 and even an extra battery. Those kind of upgrades alone will cost you a lot of money. figure a battery for about $200, HO alternator about $200+ and the big 3 minimum $25. Are you using 1/0 ga wires now? What kinda of car do you have? do you know what your stock alternator puts out? $400 for an amp is very doable but i would suggest you stay at about the same wattage so you won't have to upgrade your electrical a whole lot.
idk =( i think its too late for all dat now all i know is that my amp dont work and the person must've mest it up i dont know anything about cars or the wires and stuff but all i know is that i got a buick lucerne cxs 2008 im really sorry i cant put what i got because idk how to install it or wat i need to install it i cant get to mechanical and stuff
if those subs are wired to a 1 ohm load then buy a 1 ohm stable amp in your price range with the same amount of power. since you dont know anything about installs then have a shop do it.
to be honest your going to get a lot of recommendations from everyone here. we've all run diff amps over the years. so its going to be very confusing to you im sure. one will say brand X while another will say no get this one....and so on. your going to have a tough choice indeed. sorry. there are literally hundreds of brands and models to choose from. look into a name brand amp in you price range with a good reputation. http://www.caraudiotalk.com/audio-forum/showthread.php?p=75611#post75611
x2 on what pedro said. Honestly though, that hifonics amp you had is a good amp IMO. I could point out some budget amps or some amps that are on the more popular side if you like. But i have to ask you, were you happy with the Hifonics amp?
yes i was happy i think my subs couldve sounded clearer and better but i think the amp was too small for both of them so im getting the Hifonics BXi 2610D to replace the 1610D
let me just let you know. putting more and more power to the subs won't make them sound any better. putting too much power to them could even fry the coils on the sub. subs are only as good as the box that they are put into. In many cases people have beat out other people with a lot less wattage going to their subs. Power doesn't always mean better. 2 type R's will take 1500 watts, thats all but that is a lot! now if you just want a little head room and possibly add subs later on down the road then by all means get the BXI 2610D but if you just want to stay with the 2 type R's then the the 1610D running at 1ohm is enough power for the type r's IMO. Before getting an amp, i would say double check to make sure your subs are DVC 4ohm subs and not 2ohm subs.
hmm so should i get the BXI 2010D then? i mean i understand where ur coming from my subs did sounds loud and thats that i only had bass at half way so the amp was good well i found out today that i could get the 2610d for $330 but i dont want my subs to mest up either like you said i emailed the ebay guy i brought the amp from and it has a 4 month warranty on it since i barely got the amp at the beginning of september im going to get a refund on it and get the new amp i guess so if i do getthe 2610d what ohm should i put it on? 2 or 1? whats dvc 4ohm? my subs are dual 4ohms if dats what u mean
