Hi, I'm looking for a monoblock to drive a 12" DVC subwoofer RMS 300W@2 ohm with a budget of $180. Could someone please give recommendation which monoblock I should buy, its price and where it can be purchased online? What is the difference between a Class A/B and Class D monoblock?
I would recommend the Alpine MRP-500, it's a great little amp. Set your gains properly and carefully and you'll be fine. The Class of an amp has to do with the internal circuitry. A Class A/B amp is less efficient and generally used to power component and coaxial speakers. A Class D amp is very efficient and are designed to produce power and that is all which is why people generally run subs off of them.
Thanks for your reply. Alpine MRP-500 will load 500W RMS to my JBL GTO1204D, that is 200W more than recommended. Is it ok?
