Ok, here's the deal. I have a friend that wants to make a ported box for his 12" pyle blue label sub. I know I know, the sub sucks but it ain't mine so there isn't much that I can do about that. I just need some advice for the dimensions, how big to make the port, actually EVERYTHING. Don't worry about the size of the box, he's got a toyota 4runner... Just don't make it too big... Anyway, here's the link for the sub. Hope you all can help me out. http://http://products.tball.com/datasearch3.asp?PRODUCT_ID=PLW12BL&NOW=8/1/2007%209:11:49%20AM
That speaker really does not want a ported box, so this is what I'm gonna recommend. Build a generic ported box and when the speaker blows, you have a good box that most speakers will work good in it. So lets go for around 2.5 Cu Ft. So lets shot for 15-inches tall by 22-inches wide by 18- inches deep. Its big but not too big. We really need one 6-inch port or two 4 inch ports. We also wanna take advantage of the length of the car. So we are gonna tune around 40-42 Hz. So the port should be around 12-inches long. Two 4- inch PVC will be easier to find. Now selecting your next sub, Fs divided by Qes (yes use a calculator) will give you a number, that number should be over 70 or 80. Anyway the higher the better. A number near a 100 will be perfect for that box. Have fun
Thanks Ranger, I've been trying to tell him to just get another sub and i'm still working on it. I really don't want to help him with this box because the sub is terrible. The other day, A friend of mine gave me some old school RF series 1 subs 92-93 era. I'm thinking about making an enclosure just to see how they sound. My problem is that even though i have an expedition my space is a bit limited cuz my wife doesn't want a huge box so would it be ok to put them in a sealed enclosure?? What do you think? I've been trying to search around but i haven't been able to get the full specs for the subs...
