I have an Alpine Type R 12" (SWR1222D) I have tools and time to build a box but I have no clue on what size it needs to be, I've got the specs from alpine but i'm confused because people who have built boxes before are giving different specs from hands on experience. Does anyone have any advice on what size box I should build the box and where can I get the specs? This will be very helpfull.

PS: I have never biuld a box before, so go easy on me.. Thanx :D

Acorrding to the link supplied by Electrolytic, you sub will work in either a sealed or ported enclosure. For sealed it recommends 0.6 to 1.0 Cu Ft. I would personally shoot for close to 1.0 cu ft

For ported it recommends between .075 and 2.0 cu ft. I'm gonna tell you that anything less than 1.5 won't work. Now 2.0 would be the minimum size I would recommend, lets shoot for closer to 2.5. Not much above the recommendation but it will ge me something to work with. Can you post the specs from Alpine, it would be helpful.

also how much room do you have where you're putting your enclosure? is it in a car trunk or back of an SUV....

This is going on a 01 malibu

    The specs from Alpine are:
    External Dimensions 1.7CF 18x13.5x16
    Vent 12, 1.25W, 22.75L
    Tuning Point 36Mz

does anyone know of somewhere I can get the measurements of a box

sorry guys...I was studying for finals.

What kind of bass do you want first???

This will determine box size and tuning

The box needs to be custom designed specifically for your sub if you want it done right. Need the full specs of the sub...

    should look like this.

    Fs (Hz): 17
    Qms: 9
    Vas (liters): 245
    Cms (mm/N): 0.254
    Mms (g): 345.1
    Rms (kg/s) 4.095
    Xmax (mm): 16
    Dia (mm): 323.9
    Sd (sq.cm): 824

    What vehicle??

For that sub and rap...2.5 cu ft tuned to 40Hz will BEAT HARD

this is going in to a chevy malibu. what about the 2.0 @ 32Mhz picture on top, you think that will work?

that will not work at all...Tuning a box for a sub to 32MHz is nearly impossible.

But 2 cu ft tuned to 32Hz will be good. For rap though I'd do 2.5 cu ft tuned to 35hz...it'll be louder and still sound good.

But that is my opinion only
