ok,heres the deal.some time back i did an install in a co-workers sons suv.

so i'm his go to guy for help.he has a friend that was/is installing a sub into a 2001 mazda tribute.i told him to go online to find the wiering scematics or get a line converter to give the sub amp a signal.

instead he tapped into the factory sub's wires and hooked it to his amps hi level in.and it worked for a few minutes then...pop.nothing works.not even his radio.

i told him he most likely blew the factory amps fuse,or the amp it self.i dont know how he wired it in cause i didnt do it.

    any thoughts?

looks like the factory amp didn't like the load it saw from the amps hi level inputs and went kaput. He should have bought a high quality line output converter like a sound gate

in fords the positive wire is only 5 volts not 12 volts in the RCU unit mounted in the trunk. Also it uses a negative trigger to turn on the RCU from the headunit. So don't try using any powers from back there from the RCU unit for the amp. It's better to just bypass it completely and install a small amp.

he was trying to install a small amp.lol

he just tapped into the factory subs out to the input of the new amp.
he also wired the remote to the fuse box so the amp would turn on when the car does.

I'm not sure if the ford amp uses 5 volt turn on or not

I went through it with my car, it uses a negative trigger to turn it on, black wire with a green stripe i think and the positive wire is 5v.
