Multiple amp multiple sub question

Discussion in 'Car Subwoofers' started by stevenwtomahawk, Apr 27, 2011.

  1. Ok so right now I have two 10" kicker comps with a rockford prime 500 amp. My friend need to get rid of his Apline type r. My question is what would I need for this to work (obviously another amp and a 3 hole box) but other than that what problems would I run into and what would I need. I was looking at a kenwood amp that pushes out 500rms at 4 ohm for the type r because it will be plenty and I can not find an affordable amp for 600rms at 4 ohm.

You dont want to mix different size woofers or different types. Any time you run multiple subwoofers use the same sub. Different subs and different sized subs put out different frequency's, wavelengths, and will cancel out. It may sound okay but none of the subs will perform at their full potential.

    Different size subs

I Don't see anything wrong with mixing diff size subs/ brands. You can use different amplifiers as well. You could build a large low tuned box for the type R. Cross over set at 40 and below to 2 or 3 hz below tuning. You can hear when the sound really drops out with some test tones going down. Some say you can damage subs, but i ran 2 10's tuned to 41 hz, played jeezy put on, bunch low music, the lows sounded weak, the 41- 55 hz range was eardrum rattling. Ran them for a long time.ok back to your question, tune your subs you have now to, well i would say around 41, low crossover of 41 to how high you choose, i run my subs around 100. Feel free to correct me, i am just a home installer.

I'm gonna agree with RangeR419, you do not want to run different brand subs in the same box wired to the same amp. Different speakers have different specs (thiele/small parameters) and are designed to work differently. Performance would be questionable
