I have had the 2 way MB Quartz 6.5 Inch speaker's in my car for nearly 10 years. They still play real good.I know the Focal's are more money but would I notice much of a difference in sound between the 2 set??.My recent ALPINE 7909 recently quit working for me so I got to look for a new HU too.
is there some way you can listen to the focals? then you'll know if thier better sounding or not.if you can find a shop with a demo car that would be better
Well the MB Quartz sound great I just can't imagine the Focal's sounding 25% better but they are the newest and most expensive out there that i never heard as yet.It was probably a waste of money to put 2 of the same speaker's in the same front door.I got a big Kenwood 640 Watt Amp that power's them well though.I was inexpierenced at the time but it use to sound great with my Alpine 7909 now in a state of unprobable repair. Its going to be hard to compare the Focal's unless it has a big Amp hooked up to them.
Yeah 4 speaker's, 2 6.5's in each door and the 2 tweeter's in the Dash 1 on each side.Unusual setup but with that big Amp it sounds great but 2 of the same speaker in the same door does not make it sound much different.I was thinking about putting the other 2 on the back deck of the car but I don't know if that will improve the sound.I probably would need bigger bass then the same 6.5 puts out to make it sound better?? I have currently 6x9 Altec lansing's with a 190 watt Nakamichi Amp in there but they don't have good deep Bass.
well for good deep bass tou should consider a sub woofer. maybe an 8 or 10 in.and run it off of one of your amps.
I haven't started looking for a HU just yet.I didn't have to much usage with the ALPINE 7909.What I like about the 7909 besides its quality is that it is east to control with the knobs as far as volume. The new Alpine's don't look as user friendly. To many push button's. Maybe I'll look into a high end Pioneer HU but something that doesn't cost me as much as the 7909 did.
I really like that reasoning, because it works. If the MB's sound good and you are happy with the sound then keep them. I would however want to improve how they are mounted. A little Dynomat or other sound dampening around the speaker will improve its performance. A simple baffle with a little acoustic stuffing will also improve performance. But the key to great sound is stiffening the area the speaker is mounted to. Dynomat can do that well.
I did get a special dampening or a special $200-$300 baffle that was designed for my car so that may be the reason the MB's sound so good.As for a Sub that would definately help.I do have a 15 Inch Soundstream with a big box that I bought that was used as a Demo and sounds great.I paid $500 for it but it weighs alot maybe 100-150 lbs and I don't like the extra weight due to my needs of my car being quicker as well.Im not sure if I am going to keep it or not but it deliver's incredible great deep Bass but I would need to switch my 640 watt Kenwood Amp to it and then have to buy another AMP for the MB Quartz because my 190 watt Nakamichi Amp is not enough for the speakers in my opinion. My MB Quartz might even sound better with some of the newer Amps like the Rockford's and other's.
sell the box.then use that cash for a small sub to fill your bass needs. it doesnt have to be a huge sub to give you nice bass. check this out..... this little box really had some boom for its size.with around 250 watts.
