ok i have 4 12"s in an 05 impala its been working fine until the past couple of days it just started making a whom whom whom whom sound kinda like a car with a cam or something why is it making noise is it picking up sounds from the engine or is it due to a malfunctioning amp?

Check your ground for the amp, and make sure a RCA cable is not shorted/pinched.

And if you grounded the amp to a small little screw or a seat bolt without scraping the paint away, you get what you deserve!!!!!!!! LOL!!!

the ground is secured to a large bult that pulls the seatbelt to the frame of the car it might be my rca's because i installed an rca converter and ran it off the stock amp instead of pulling my whole dash off to get to my head unit thanks for the info also would u know y my 100amp fuse is melting the plastic is completely melting off the metal inside of it but it doesnt pop and the fuse block plastic isnt melting

Yep. anytime a fuse MELTS the housing or surrounding area......Its due to low voltage from your electrical system. Anyone that tells you different is a jackass........

First and foremost, upgrade the "big 3"

    Using ALL 4 gauge here........

run a wire from the battery negative to chassis gound.

run a wire from the alternator output to the battery positive

run a wire from the engine block to either the chassis or battery negative

Do this and you will be rewarded with the most power your alternator can kick out!

the ground you are using for your amp (the seatbelt bolt) might as well grounf it to a bowl of jello brand pudding...It sucks, bottom line.

To ground an amp drill a hole, grind away all paint from both top and bottom. put a bolt and nut with washers through it and ground it like you mean it. then spray undercoating or paint on it to stop it from corroding.

That is the way it should be done.....period:)

aight thanks man it was caused due to the rca's but ill do the 4guage wire how much more power do u think itll kick out compared to what it is now?

Dont know what amp you are running, but I will bet it has a regualted power supply, SOOOOOOOOO, you will gain about 2 or 3 dB of output, that means it wont make that big of difference. but you WILL enable your amps to perform like they should and not blow chunks due to low voltage. maybe.........

Now, where are my biscuits and gravy?

ok cool i have 2 800w kenwood with a 5 farad cap i need 2 more amps really but i think ill have to get a new altenator or add a second one

Viking...you are on way too much...get a life!!!

Resistance makes heat...voltage drop = more current must be pulled...makes heat...crappy plastic fuse holder is just crappy...get a real one...with a proper fuse...the fuse is to protect the wire not the amp!!!!

Fuse rating should be what the power wire can transfer

ok but if i put in an 80 amp fuse it pops like nothin and the ground and and the connections are perfect besides the whole 4 guage wire from my alternator to my battery ect. im running a 4 guage wire from my battery and splitting into 8 guage that runs into the cap and 8 guage comming from that cap to the amps and also 8 guage grounding everything should i go 4 guage all around?

hmm thought they gatherd power and helped decrease the amount of power being taken out of your battery all the time kinda like a stress releiver. whats the best way to go for the wireing all 4 guage?

DITCH the caps!!!!! right NOW. throw them at your little brother or sell them to a retard that thinks caps are cool!!!

If you are blowing fuses "right now" then you have a problem. and bigger fuses will only mnake your car light up like a roman candle, which would be cool to watch! Cars make the most AWESOME flames!!!!!

im not blowing them right now and havnt for a looooooong time accually i just put a 60 amp in after u told me to check my ground and rca's and it did fine so i dont think somethins goin bad right now. i think i have a shyt load of resistance goin on or something due to its fine until i play like 2 songs of only half bass half volume and the amps turn off due to heat whats the best way to reduce the heat amount on the amps and wire?

What kind of amp?? Amps aren't 100% efficient so they make heat...how is your gain set???

Could be wired at too low of an impedance

If your electrical system cant handle it right now, the BEST thing to do is TURN THE VOLUME DOWN! yes, thats right!!!!!! and if you doubt me, well, I dont care! It aint my amps or electrical system!:)

theyre both kenwood i know most amps arent at true power but i still dont get the whole fuse melting and all that ive always had amps turn off i was just wondering if there was anything i could do to reduce the amount of times that it happends

my gain is set half on both amps everything on my amps is only half way and same with volume and bass eq i never go past that its too damn loud

    OK, do this.....

with the car at a fast idle, say, 2000 rpm, turn on the radio and listen to it like you always do when the fuses blow/melt. continue this for a few minutes. Now, take a volt meter and measure the battery voltage......Is it above 13.8 volts or below? If its below, which I am sure it is, you are drawing TOO MUCH poower/current . the ONLY WAY to solve this problem is with a higher ouput alternator, NO not more batteries, NO, not some caps, A BIGGER ALTERNATOR....Period

I have been in the car audio field longer than most people here, i have forgotton more than most people here know. Trust me on tnis.

Now, go out and measure your voltage like I said and report back here when done,
