Hey everyone im new to the sub/amp thing and only now how to do basic wiring. Any who I have a bazooka 1500 watt amp and a wolfenhag 1000watt sub. I have a truck and I dont think i will want/need more than one sub.

Any who i am looking to build my own box but Im not sure how space (the size of the box) and porting affects the sub/bass/sound. Why are boxes ported? ive noticed not all are ported. why is that?

Porting increases the bass output of the box, and in most cases I recommend porting. The sealed box has the smoothest responce and best transients, in other words, it blends really well with the other speakers in your ride. But most of us want more bass.

Sealed boxes are typically smaller than ported boxes, so they fit well in space limited vehicles. But as the box gets smaller, it tends to peak at higher frequencies. And if small enough, the peak will actually approach the mid bass realm. Size is the single most important parameter in your subwoofer system, its even more important than your sub selection. But if space permits, build a ported box. If not then build a sealed box and use more power to offset the difference.

well im using a bazooka 1500 watt amp with a volfenhag 1000 watt sub. Not looking to get crazy amounts of annoying bass just want some feel to the music. running some nicer speakers all around my truck. im good with wood working just not sure on the science of porting. space is a limiting factor but there is a good amount under the bench seat in the back of the cab. its an ext cab. what would you recommend? how big would the box need to be for this amp? Would i want the sub to face towards the front of the cab or up to the bottom of the seat?
