I have a 2000 grand prix gt with bose and i'm trying to find a remote wire so I can hook up a amp and subs. I tried putting a test light to the wires and half of them light up so I'm still not sure which one is which. Anybody know if I can just use any of the wires that light up or which one is the remote wire?
First stop using a testlight. Bad idea on modern cars. Now for your remote wire, there are two ways to do this (I think). First lets see if you radio has a remote wire. Look at the plug that plugs into your radio. One of them should be a 5-pin plug. I dont remember the colors, but the first one is constant power, the second one is switched ignition, the third should be a remote on wire. Normally this wire is pink, but I have seen other colors. If there is a wire in the third position confirm that its the right wire with a DVM, not a test light. It should read 12 volts with the radio on and nothing with the radio off. Our next choice (if there is no remote wire) would be to tie it into the ignition wire. The only down side is that the amp is on whenever the car is on. Finally, if you have no remote wire you can use a PAC Trunk Loc. It can provide a remote wire and it detects whether the radio is on or off. http://www.pac-audio.com/products/productsCatagory.asp?mmSearch=Line Output Converters Its been awhile since I've messed with Bose, but I think that the amp or amps (depending on the system) only has power when the radio is on. If this is the case (test with a DVM) then the power wire can serve as a remote wire for your amp.
