I just got 4 new Kicker ks680 speakers for my Ranger. I havent installed them yet, but from what I've heard these speakers have good mids and highs, and sound clear loud. Im not going to amp these speakers but I already have an Apline deck.
I want to go all out with the sub/amp setup and get something that sounds good with these speakers. The first thing I need to figure out is whether I should go with a single 12" sub or two 10's. Those just seem like the best options for me. I want the sub to be LOUD and hit hard (for a lot of rap music), but i also want really good response and a sub that sounds good with rock and fast music and hits all the lows. What would you guys recommend?

If it were me I'd look at more Kickers.. I jus like my stuff to match though.. Kicker speakers and maybe 2 Kicker CVR 10s with the Kicker ZX750.1? 2 subs, amp, and wiring kit for under 500 bucks.. Sounds pretty sweet to me..

I think ur gonna need an amp for the door speakers. The 17-22 watts rms wont b enough once u add ur subs. The amount of bass it sounds like u want will wash out the mids and highs. I got that problem now. 2 10 in type r's at only 200 watts rms each. Lots of bass. But cant hear the words. LOL. Im working on it though.

I have an extended cab. thanks for showing me that power pack...im probably going to get that. my speakers are 60 watts rms, so with 45 watts powering them with the power pack, is that good enough to keep up and sound clear with a 12" sub?

so how does that "power pack " get its power? thru the head units power supply? not sure a 12~14 gauge wire can supply the power for 180 watts.

i would look into a dedicated amplifier for your mids and highs. you would get more power and have more outboard controls from it. like gain and crossovers.

as far as ease of install goes. it wont take long at all. i just watched the video install. 30 minutes tops. you can't beat that. but i still have reservations about the radio's wiring harness being able to support a 45 x4 amplifier.

if the wiring can't handle the power pack, then I will for sure get an amp. But I assume alpine made this to work with the wiring that comes with their deck and the stock car wires for the speakers. I would rather not spend the money for an amp since I already have to get one for gthe sub, and the speakers I got aren't really worth putting that much into. 45 watts per speaker will be plenty for me, as long as it can keep up ok with the 12 I'm getting (looking into kicker L5).
Has anyone tried the alpine power pack?
It if I get it, would it be smart to upgrade the speaker wires for all speakers? The alpine wiring harness that came with my year old cda105 should be able to handle the extra power, right? I would like to hear some more opinions

im pretty sure its the same type of amp in a head unit, just with more power. if it was me i would do a real amp at a much lower cost.

i think you can just get yourself a decent 50~75 x4 amp(75~90 bucks) and power your front speakers and a sub off of it in 3CH mode. just run the rears off of head unit power.

or if you want to "amp" all the speakers look into getting a 5ch amp. 200 ish or more.

What would sound better: a 50-75 x4 channel amp powering 2 of my 60w speakers and a 12" sub, or the power pack sending 45w to all 4 speakers and a mono amp powering the sub??

Im thinking about getting the Kicker solo baric L5 12". How would you guys rate this sub? Its power range is up to 600 watts and peak power is 1200 watts.
How much power in a 1-channel amp will i want for this?

i ran one for over a year with 280 watts rated @ 8 ohms mono. still got loud enough for me at the time.

how good the sub sounds will depend on your enclosure.

The kicker L5 is 600w rms, and im going with the 4-ohm. To get the best sound out of the sub, do i need to get an amp that will put out 600w x 1 @ 4 ohm?

I probably wont be using all this power, but i dont want to have the sub under powered and sound not as good. Im pretty sure im going to get a ported box for the sub.
