so i just picked up a 13w7 yesterday for a pretty good price (i think) for 350 and i wanted to build a ported box for them. i was wondering if i should just follow specs for the ported box from jl? or should i go bigger? cuz it says i should build one about 2.375 cu ft with a slot width of 2.0", slot height of 15.75", and a slot length of 23.375"...i built one a couple weeks ago for a 12" type r that was around 2.5 cu ft also tuned to about 40 hz. im pretty sure the w7 is going to command more air space than the type R... any feedback would be nice *sorry for the lengthy read
I find that the manufactures recommendations, while good, are a little conservative. For this woofer, 3 to 3.25 cu. ft. would be a good starting point. The port has plenty of cross sectional area, so the only change would be that it needs to be shorter I'll figure out the new length later
The new port length will be 16-inches. You will need maintain the same cross sectional area. So keep the previous dimensions of 15.75-inches by 2-inches
