so usually when i get a new system ill go bigger. so im looking at a SoloX. The ones with 5000 watts rms. i was wondering if it matters if i got 2 12's or 1 18. what would the sound difference be? the only problem i had when looking this up before is an amp to power one. what are your suggestions?
Id go with the 2 twelves. more cone space means more bass. But they peak at 5000 watts x2 so you will need a monster amp. Kicker warhorse= 10000 watts, of course you will need like 4 batteries and a monster alternator to power it, not to mention deep pockets.
the 18 will have more cone area. i know a kid with 2 in his explorer on 8k. 4k per. either ones will get loud in the right enclosure. how much are you getting them for?
Maybe I don't know how exactly to add up cone area, but if you have 2 twelves won't that give you 6 more inches of cone area than one 18?
No, since Solo X subs are square do length x width to calculate cone area. 18x18= 324 12x12=144(2)= 288
So if you measure a round sub straight accross, A 12 inch sub would have 12 inches of cone space, but you measure a square sub VxH to get 144 inches. So square subs have DOUBLE the cone area???
No, for a round sub you use the same formula you use to find the area of a circle which is (pi*radius squared) so the area of a 12 inch round sub is 3.14*6^2 -> 3.14*36 = 113 sq. in. The radius of a circle is half the total diameter, so a 12" sub has an approximate radius of 6", really though no sub has an actual cone that is 12" but it works the same for all subs.
So are you saying radius and cone area are the same. I understand that the radius is from the center to the edge, but isnt that only going one direction. i think you would multiply that by 2 since you are going from edge to edge.
ive done it like this. radius x pi, then x radius. so 6(radius) x 3.14(pi) =18.84 x 6 =113.04 cubic inches of cone area. but for square subs its L x W. thus 12 x 12 or 18 x18.
so i should go with the solox 18" ? too bad i cant find them for sale anywhere also please help me with an amp. i have no clue on what to get with something this huge. and what do i want for coils? dual 1, 2, or 4? what really is the difference between the types of dual coils i have? I was wondering maybe get 2 of these? http://www.onlinecarstereo.com/CarAudio/p_19320_Kicker_08ZX25001.aspx ?
I have a buddy who uses some of these http://www.thedeepdiscount.com/p-23...ms-mono-block-car-amplifier-1-ch-sub-amp.aspx 4000 rms, their lower end models are meh, but from what i understand, their high end models like this one are very good. not quite 5000 watts, but it's a very good price for 4000 watts, surley after the 1000$ on that 18" solox, you could use a break he has like 7 of them, he's trying to sell some, if you'd like i could get ahold of him, think he was asking something like 400$ they're only slightly used, don't think he used any many of them, he was sponsored by MA audio. so he got massive discounts.
400 is a good price on those amps. since my last post, my bud got two crescendo audio 3k amps. http://www.crescendoaudio.com/product.php?productid=17515&cat=0&bestseller=Y they are local to me here, and ive been hearing really good reviews on them.
those would be so nice if it woudln't take 4 solox's to get down to .5 ohms, and at that point you're 16k watts behind haha but if you had 16k watts coming from your system, you're rocking pretty hard..youd probobly burst an ear drum like that
well, if moneys not an issue, more power to ya, and if thats the case, kicker does make an amp that'll put those subs in their place. I really know of no other amp that claims those ratings, so, 10000 watts rms at 2 ohms, you'll be rocking hardcore http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_11192_Kicker+Warhorse+WX10000.1.html
I would look into other subs if i were you... like nightshades, DD or other brands... another amp you could take a look at with hefty numbers is the soundstream xxx series http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_5399_Soundstream+XXX-6500D+-XXX6500D-.html you may even want to give sundown a look http://www.sundownaudio.com/index.php/products/amplifiers.html
any reason why to look at different subs? i like the sundown amps you linked to. ive seen them used before around here once i think.
