I was wiring up my Crossfire CFA1000D and Fosgate power 550s amps and was running 2 guage cable when I got to the input of the Crossfire and realized it will only accept an 8 awg wire. It has a 120 amp fuse and will do around a 1000 watts in a 1 ohm load. Now my Mtx 942 amp will put out about the same wattage in a bridged mode and will ask for 150 amps at full output, and Mtx calls for a MINIMUM of 1 awg wire. Now if the amps are putting out about the same wattage and asking for roughly the same to put out that power, why the huge difference in guage wire. Is it because the Crossfire is a class D amp? I have been running the Crossfire at 2 ohms for many years pushing to 12 inch Boston pros and never had any problems but have never run it at 1 ohm, anyone ever use these amps at 1 ohm before?? basically I am a little worried pushing 1 ohm thru 8 guage cable.
the amp is one ohm stable (supposedly), but I am hesitant to believe that it puts out 1000 watts at 1 ohm, because of the size of the input. I think that amp may be slightly overrated.. - I'd say run the 2guage up to the amp, and file off everything that will not fit. (cut the wire down so that it fits in the amp) and don't worry about pushing one ohm through THAT cable, impedance is only a factor between the amp and the sub through the speaker leads.
