JL C5 components sound?

I recently bought a pair of JL C5 component speakers for the front stage of my conversion van. I also bought a JVC deck and had it installed. These speakers come with a crossover. I'm a little confused. I always thought the point of components was to seperate the highs from the lows. Vocals come out of the woofer and the tweeter. Is this normal? It doesn't sound bad or anything. The speakers are running off my deck. I just thought the woofer was for bass production only and not vocals. Plus the woofers are literally at my feet. So when I open my door it sounds way better. I'm not impressed with the bass production either. I know these speakers need an amp to play to full potential. My 3 1/2 eclipses in my truck running of my head unit put out tighter cleaner bass, and they can handle 75W and the C5's handle 60W I kind of expected more. I'm eventually going to get a amp for my highs and subs. What do u think?????? One thing that I think might be affecting the lows. The way the woffers are mounted in the door there is a gap of about 3/4 of an inch between the door panel and the woofer on one side. I seem to think they would sound better flush mounted with the door panel, but it is a conversion van and the panels are not factory. Should I try to close the gap?

    close the gap.

the woofer dont just play bass, they play bass and vocals up to the point where the tweeter takes over.

if you want more precise bass, mid, highs a three way will do that.

Maybe I should play with the crossover so the woofer is handling more of the lower tones. I think that way I would get more vocals out of tweeters since there is about a 2 1/2 feet distance between the two. I'm sure once I get an amp I'll be much happier anyway

the slope is set in the crossover. im not sure you can do much unless you go full active.

But you might have frequency gaps in your music.

How far away do you have the tweeter from the midbass?

They should be mounted as close as physically possible if you can get the tweeter aimed toward you. The farther you separate components that share the same crossover, the worse your imaging gets. As the sound near the crossover frequency rises and lowers, the focus shifts between the drivers and worsens the image. This is why in home speakers you will always see the mid and high frequency drivers mounted very close.

You definitely need an amplifier on the C5. They are very good speakers and most components require an amp.

    As far forward as possible......?

Now you say this......They should be mounted as close as physically possible if you can get the tweeter aimed toward you. I see a different opinon on each subject...

Granted each enviorment needs addressed in a different manner

Not different. The sound is better when they're close together. I'm just saying a lot of people want to mount their tweeters up high and if this really what they want, then best to mount them forward rather than beside their head.

Mounting right above the woofer as close as possible is really best. I stand by my statement.
