I am stuck between the following speakers for my Lincoln Mark VIII. Yes, I have tried to go out and listen to these speakers but NO ONE has the components for these up to listen to. All I could find are some Alpine S coaxial and some cheap JBL coaxial to listen to. I have been to about 8 places so far. Has anyone actually listened to both of these type of speakers that can give me a fair opinion as to what to go with. My amp that is going to them is an Eclipse XA5000. I will include the specs on all the speakers and amps below. Any help would be great or if you want to offer another opinion about some other set that are the same size that would be fine as well. JBL speakers: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7436.html Alpine speakers: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_5160.html Eclipse amp: http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_7473.html
Both sets of speaker brands have a long history in car audio, JBL has been in the industry longer than Alpine however, they have always made an excellent speaker, in all aspects of audio whether it is pro sound, home mobile, etc...... alpine has usually made a speaker that performs well over the years, I have had experience with both.....It is basically a toss-up in my book.....The JBL's might edge out the Alpines in SQ and efficiency, which is a good thing, but that is pure speculation cause I aint heard either one!!!! Gut feeling.......I say JBL........
Both will sound good but id disagree with viking and id go with the Alpines just because ive listened to them and they sound very nice. as for the amp, eclipse has always built a very nice amp, I have one in my wifes Taurus and it performs perfectly.
im going with viking as ive always preffered JBL and have always been a big buyer and a buddy of mine DJ's and use's nuthin but jbl cabinets from 12" to 18" speakers loaded in them..i remember me and the rest of the club hosted a carshow in august and he came and dj'd and a buddy of mine who is a big sound installer was the guest announcer and when music played or he would talk you can hear it over the noise all the way across the park on the otherside of the show and hear it crystal clear and especially when he brought 24 of them things and when stood in front of them it would thump your heart literally and you can feel it in your bones
I am not disrespecting Alpine, but JBL makes great quility stuff....The last time I bought 6x9's I chose JBL GT series...I listened to many brands and for the price, I thought they sounded best....I do pro sound PA with a guy on weekends....All his stuff is JBL (subs, mains, monitors)...... My home speakers are JBL (L 7 4 ways)....I have never heard a JBL speaker that I thought did not sound excellent... I could not possibly edge one over the other without first hearing them side by side....Also...there is personal preference too...... Honestly I think either way you go, you would be happy... Willy
I got curious and asked the people at crutchfield what they thought about it and they pretty much said that JBL would prolly be the better speaker to go with over Alpine. I know they sell both JBL and Type R speakers so that is another opinion to add to it. Just wish I could hear both but just not possible aparently.
