My friend has 3 12w0's powered by a JL 600W amp. The subs are in a sealed box. As you know I have 2 10" Comp Vr's powered by a Z9000. His 3 subs pack a much more powerful punch than my 2 subs even though I have an extra 200W at my disposal. Its weird b/c his subs hit completely differently than mine. When some notes hit it feels like you are being punched in the chest. Its one of those quick bass hits and not the long burrrrrrrrrs. I seem to be lacking that punch in my setup but then again he has 3 12's. For only 600W and W0's im very impressed. I want to get metered very bad.....I wonder what Im hitting. With my subs it feels like my car is going to fall apart b/c they shake everything inside. I wonder if what Im hearing are the subs or just all the metal vibrating b/c at some notes I get these weird vibration noises. I uploaded some pics onto cardomain but the damn thing is down. Ill give you guys the link when it is up. So basically I was trying to say that 3 12's hit harder than 2 10's with an extra 200W. Then again he should be hitting much harder than me considering he has 3 12's and I have 2 10's. Im done venting.......Im an audiophile
I just did the chillest thing.....its 8 pm by the way. I went into my car, reclined the seat all the way and listened to some music while looking at the sky. It was so chill Big please punch me in the chest
With a cone area advantage like that, he SHOULD be louder than you... Twice as loud as you.. maybe more! I don't have time to do the math, but there's no replacement for displacement... While doubling your cone area will always stimulate twice the air with the same amount of power going to the sub... It takes a quadrupling of power to make the sub stimulate twice the air (reach twice the excursion levels, IF it even can)! So he's got a big cone area advantage, and an almost negligable power advantage (especially when you factor in amp manufacturing tolerances, and the variances in power measurements, benchmarks, etc.. who knows, he could have the same or more power than you!) not to mention different subs, different impedance curves, etc.. Anyways, go get metered, and have him get metered... I bet there's a 6dB difference at least...
geo yyour forget on key element of Sealed boxes XMAX the kickers have about 2x more than the w0 so......... I agree that the Cone area does add to the loudness, and he will be louder, but not 2x louder
that statement holds up just as well for making bass as it does for making horsies! God bless my Chevy ZZ4! B)
I would look at your box sizes..... Ill bet you a dollor that he has a higher Qtc alignment than you and thats your "punch" you hear.
