Hello everyone! I just bought a 2008 Infiniti G37. It has the premium package with the Bose system in it with navigation. I am looking to upgrade. Here is what I have bought so far, nothing has been installed yet.
    1. JL Audio 10w6v2 (one sub)
    2. JL Audio 500/1v2
    3. Custom Made Sub Enclosure (4080 enclosures)
    4. MTX RE-Q5
    5. Stinger 5 farad SPC505
    6. Dynamat Extreme Bulk Pk. #10455

It has been a long time since I have been into any kind of aftermarket car audio (approx. 12years). I want to keep the factory headunit since it has navigation and a very nice screen etc. I have already done a nav hack on it too.
My question is, how does the setup sound so far? I want to add some highs/mids to the system, but how can that be done using the factory headunit? I would like to add one JL Audio amp and a component unit (maybe front and back), but I was told the easiest way to do this would be to replace the headunit with something aftermarket, but I do not want to do that. I was told that if I don't, then it isn't the preferred way to do it and that there would be a lot of wiring etc. and that returning it to a factory setup if I ever wanted to would be difficult. What is everyones advice and suggestions for keeping the factory headunit and adding like some Alpine Type R or Xpro components? I need all the help/advice I can get. I am basicly a rookie at this all over again. Can I easily add the components and run the whole described system from the factory headunit? I bought the re-q5 and maybe this helps with this, but to be honest I really don't know much about all this anymore. In fact I never did know a whole lot. All you experts chime in and get to posting. Thanks guys!

    Welcome to CAT!!!

JL makes some good stuff, I bit pricey but very good.

You can use your stock head unit if you are really set on doing it that way. All you have to use is a LOC (line output converter). Soundgate makes a very good LOC from what i'm told. Here's a link:

as far as components go, all you'll need is a good front stage, there is no need for you to spend the extra $$$ for 2 sets of component speakers. A lot of people don't even put speakers in the rear anymore but if you have passengers in the back it's better just to keep the stock speakers back there and just run them off your headunit. If you do it that way you can get a real good set of components for your front stage.

I have no experience with Alpine Type R or Xpro components, so someone else can chime here for that. What i do suggest is that you go to car audio stores and listen to some components. Pick what you like, not what everybody else likes.

I could point you in the right direction though. Take a look at Focal, DLS and Rainbow. There are a lot of brands out there, what's your budget?

Too bad you bought a capacitor, they really aren't needed.

Sounds like a sick ride man, if i were you now i'm not an expert like some of the guys on here but i would stick with just the sub and amp how you have it honestly the premium bose speakers pound, my buddy has and RSX type S and he has two 12" type X subs with a PDX 1.1000 and then the bose speakers throughout that came stock, and its one of the best quality systems in my town which is what i am assuming you are going for. The damn thing is bulletproof. But if you do decide to change your components the only thing i would go too is the Type X pros. Along the lines for headunit, stick with factory ivve seen the G37 interior the way your talking, the navi is sick, and its really not that hard to throw a few subs onto a factory headunit, talk to a good installer and it should be no problem

Thanks for the replies! So what exactly does the LOC do? Does it hook to the factory headunit and allow me to add the amp for the sub and amp for the components? I am having all this professionally installed, but the installer was pretty much against me keeping the factory headunit. He said that if I did, it would be hard to return it to the original factory setup due to all the wire cutting/soldering etc. Yes, this is the Bose sytem with 10inch woofers in the doors.

that guys trying to sell you ****, i have the factory head unit in my 2008 escape and if you are just puting subs there isnt too much crazy wiring because you are generally adding your own wires for the sub and amp. If LOC is what i think it is it converts so you can run RCA to your amp

a line output converter (LOC) allows you or makes it so your headunit can have preouts (for RCA's) in order for you to hook up amps to your stock headunit. If your going to buy a LOC buy the soundgate, it's a quality LOC. Ranger (a mod here) is an installer and that's what he always recommends. Do not buy those cheap LOC's you get on ebay.

Of course the installer is against you keeping your stock headunit. He won't make any money off of you if you keep it. LOC's are very simple to install, you will have to tap into the speaker lines but you won't have to do any cutting at all. And it will be very easy to bring back to stock again in the event you want to sell your car.

    Hope this helps.
