Hello all, I curently have a Magnum SRT8, with a factory NAV head unit and Kicker system. I have updated the sub with a Kicker L7 and a 750.1, but the rest of the system is crap.

I wish to replace the factory head unit (and all of the speakers, add in another amp, but no help needed there), and install rear monitors. I use my car for business, and require NAV, Ipod, and DVD capability. I am aware that most of these are add on features with most manufacturers.

Here is the question, I have been floating around on here, but I really cannot estimate which may fit my requirements best. I have used Alpine head units in the past, and have quite liked them. I have also used a few Pioneer, they were hit and miss. Whom make the most reliable, most versatile, cearest video? most audio adjustable package?

    Alpine? Clarion? Pioneer? JVC? Eclipse?

I am aware that this is usually an oppinion quaestion, but if it works for others, and it seems most common, then it must work.

Thank you very much Ranger, that was a post from a year and a half ago. Is Pioneer still the one?

Another question, how long will it be before a Blue-Ray for the car is available?

probably won't for another 3 years or more.

blueray vastly exceeds the pixel count of small monitors, and would require integrated surround processors (like dvd-A specs did) so there would be no benefit to the 99.9% of consumers that are the target demographic of audio companies. Most monitors don;t even have full resolution for dvd yet.

blue ray is still not a standard (as in widely adopted) format.

I'd suggest either the alpine w505 as an alternative to the pioneer.

So the Alpine W505 w/Nav, and all accessories, Pioneer Z3 with all accessories or the Pioneer P6000 and no availble Nav?

Anyone had experience with such combinations?

In all of your opinions, what advantages or disadvantages (delay time, pixelation, size) are there to either an overhead versus headrest monitors for the rear?

over head: blocks rear visibility for the driver, very important in a magnum since they are so damn rear visibility limited to begin with.

also they are off axis so you can get a lot of ghosting from the LCD unless you mount it far enough forward to be somewhat in the way between the front seat backs

head rest monitors: size. 7 inch is still somewhat small and 8 inch is best.

have to cut the headrests or use clunky brackets.

can run dual sources if needed to entertain wildly disparate ages.

BTW i picked up a DTV converter today... At some point I'm going to see about converting it to 12V like i did my PS2 gen 1 (ie thick) for rear seat entertainment... on the cheap.

I think that I would lean toward the Alpine.
