I'm constructing a "mobile boom box" for my son for x-mas, and need some advice. The box is about 2' long, 12" deep and 16" tall. My goal is to make it primarily a boom box, but also a functional place to put a few tools, and other odds and ends. So far, I have the Sony CDX-GT630UI deck with 52 Watts through 4 channels. It's pushing 2, Sony XSGTX1640 6.5-Inch Coaxial 4-Way Speakers. The deck sounds great w the speakers but we need a little thump in this. I have a small sub I want to put in the box. I don't want to buy an amp to run it, because my install is tight and getting heavier by the minute, plus I want to keep the drain on the small motorcycle battery light. Is there any way I can bridge the rear speaker outputs and send them to the sub? Or will that blow up the deck? I was thinking about getting one of those small motorcycle amps to run the sub, but again, I don't want to do it unless there is no other way. Thanks for any advice you can lend! I'll post more pics of my progress tonight. Tom
that looks like 1/4" plywood....prob needs to be beefed up...I wouldnt use less than 1/2" if you are puttin a sub in there...I know its not alot of power but I feel like that is going to be awful flimsy... -David
Me and a friend built something sorta like this a few weeks ago but alot bigger... we made it out of mdf and put a kenwood deck in it. 2 xplod 12's he had laying around, a car battery, with a charger built into the box, and an mtx amp it's really loud, but I would recommend getting a small amp for the sub
Thanks for the replies so far, guys. Most of it is made if 1/2 birch ply, and only the sides are the 1/4 ply. I didn't want it to be too heavy. Here is a current picture. I went ahead and got the small motorcylce AMP, I will post another picture tonight. Lazy eye, post a picture!
well it's at my friends house, I'll try to get one this weekend. but this thing is pretty heavy about 90 pounds
