well there has been alot of changes since the last time i posted here. i seem to drift away more and more. BUT, in the last week i bought a new car. a 1997 eclipse gst with a system already in it! here is what i got: alpine headunit, alpine comp set, alpine rear speakers, alpine 5 channel amp, kenwood tornado sub. i know not the best stuff, but sounds good nonetheless. here is the link to my sounddomain page with some pics of the car.

the car itself has a b16g turbo, upgraded fuel pump, 3000gt blow off valve, racing hart 18's, eibach suspension, and every option available on the gst's. have a look and tell me what you think!!

Looks very nice, I always liked that body style Eclipse.

Actually, I'd bet that Alpine system doesn't sound too bad..

Probably the first thing you want to do (if you even do anything else!), would be to replace that sub.
And even at that, it's up to your own tastes, or really how much bass you desire...

The rest of it might be fine!
    How does it sound?

Do you know what boost levels you are running?
I know the 1st gen Eclipses could take ludicrous amounts of boost on the stock bottom end...
I'm not sure if that drivetrain stuck with it all those years.

thanks, yeah the system isnt too hateful. for right now its good enough. i am running 12psi max right now. i have a big turbo but stock exhaust so it is kind of choking itself. and yes the 1g's and 2g's can handle close to the same with the 1g's handling a little more. my dad has a 91 talon tsi and its really fast.

oh and it sounds great, i really like it, big difference from my last car.

There was brifly this little import speed shop up here...

I'm more of an autocross racer (although my supercharger was installed for fun.. really messing me up, putting me in C-mod class - ouch! :p), but I met this guy who was into the weekend-drag racing thing.

He had a 1st gen eclipse or talon...
He was running something around 22 pounds of boost on a daily basis, and that got cranked up to 28-30 on the track... on a stock bottom end. B)

They obviously had some serious fuel enhancement capabilities going on here, no detonation... but he's not the only one that I've heard of, on a stock bottom end no less.

i paid 7200 for it. i had a 1993 eclipse 2.0 that i paid 1200 for. my dad has a 1991 talon awd turbo that he got for 1600. the 1st gens can be had for cheap and make great daily drivers. awesome on gas and fun! :D

Cosmetically, I like the 2nd gen Eclipses best...
But I've heard the 1st-gens are some pretty decent cars.
Getting up there in the years now, so they definitely should be able to be found cheap... and if they can take so much abuse and keep on truckin, I'd bet they are pretty reliable even in advanced age. B)

lol sand whats up man? i remember back in the day when i use to try and beat your post count, haha boy i sure was cool

geo-you can find a nice, low mileage (100k or a bit more) 1st gen eclipse/talon/laser for under 3k for sure. more towards 2500 and lower. great cars for the buck i think.

my dad has a 1991 talon awd and we got it for 1600. it has 128k on it. runs great ;)

oh and sand, wow, ive been everywhere and anywhere, but i think im back and the bug has bitten me again, i wanna swap out my kenwood 12 and alpine amp for the 2 e15k's and a big amp <_< <_<

hey and we can race, sure, what times are you running? :(

    Hahaha....
You don't want to know what times a modified Buick Grand National can do.. the stock times would be fast enough for me, for sure... :p

    Really cool cars...
I'm not traditionally a big musclecar fan... partly because of their incredible popularity up here, really... just too damn many of them, and I really like "different" (and my modified Civic WAS different in 1995 and 1996 dammit! :ranting:
Actually, up here, seriously, it is very different. B)

But at any rate, the Grand National is a seriously significant car, in automotive history, most notably because of it's incredible powerplant... a turbocharged V6 that put out incredible power.

Interestingly, they put that motor in one year's worth of a Pontiac Firebird... or Trans Am... I don't know what it was actually badged, but I've seen one, and it was very very cool.

GM also did some turbo sixes for two of my favorite vehicles ever.. the Syclone and the Typhoon, and in addition to remarkable 0-60 times, they were the fastest production trucks ever built... I wish I remember the top speed, it was obnoxious.
I believe the Grand National (or maybe the GNX?) similarly had some sort of top-speed honor.

Seth knows all about these... he can clean up the details of my messy recollection.
But the bottom line is... they really are significant cars, stock... and can be modified to put out horsepower that embarasses big-block V8's.
Too damn many V8's - and worse, guys that think "if it ain't got a V8... it ain't worth drivin'" - around here. ;)
